[Basal uveo-retinitis (peripheral uveitis, chronic posterior cyclitis, pars planitis, vitritis, hyalo-retinitis). and other inflammations of the peripheral retina].

The study of the histological features of the peripheral retina and the observation of this periphery in 149 cases of uveitis of various types has led us to consider these peripheral retinal inflammations as presenting clinically either as a local reaction in this area during the course of anterior and posterior uveitis, manifested by a circular inflammatory condensation of the peripheral vitreous, or as a specific affection related to the periphery. These latter assume two forms: either that of a peripheral chorio-retinitis, or that of a basal uveo-retinitis, a term proposed in place of those considered inadequate--pars planitis, peripheral uveitis, chronic posterior cyclitis. In accordance with this conception four forms of uveitis can be distinguished: anterior uveitis, posterior uveitis, peripheral chorio-retinitis and basal uveoretinitis.

[Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. About two observations (author's transl)].

After a reminder of clinical symptoms and development of the V.-K.-H. disease, some histological and clinical observations are related. The clinical observations are very characteristic of the V.-K.-H. disease. There are only two notable points: in both observations, a very low lymphocytic reaction to phytohemaglutinin and in the first observation, the presence of an anemia with parallel evolution to the uveitis. The histological examination of the depigmented area shows an infiltrate as described by Perrot, around the involved area in vitiligo. Ultrastructural study identifies 250 angströms wide particles that appear to be particles of alpha-glycogene, well developed amyelinic endings, and lastly, lymphocytoid cells closely joined with dendritic cells having internal granulations. These aspects have already been found in the iris by the Japanese authors, and they evoked an immunological mechanism.

[Retinoblastoma and transmission of balanced chromosomal modifications].

Two cases of retinoblastoma in two children showing a chromosomal rearrangement in the karyotype were reported. In the first case, a pericentric inversion of chromosome 9 was observed both in the child and his father. In the second case, a reciprocal translocation t (3;12)(q29;q15) present also in the paternal karyotype was identified. A strict connection cannot be established between the tumour itself and the family chromosomal aberrations, but these observations raise the problem of a possible "interchromosomal effect".

[The measurement of the partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide and pH of the aqueous humor in man. A preliminary study on 32 normal eyes].

Using a micromethod the authors have measured the pH, and the partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the aqueous humour. The results are presented in 32 normal eyes. The authors have studied the variation of these levels in the aqueous in comparison with the same levels measured at the same time under the same conditions in the arterial blood.

[Prevalence of etinoblastoma in the Midi-Pyrenées area].

The frequency of retinoblastoma was estimated in southwest France (Midi-Pyrénées) during the 1950-1969 period. Twenty-three cases were detected among 507 157 liveborns. After correcting for the probability of ascertainment of patient, the estimated frequency is 1 per 15 849 births. The proportion of unilateral cases is estimated 91 percent after correcting for the higher probability of ascertaining bilateral cases.
