Clinical aspects of bursae and tendon sheaths of the foot.
The evaluation and treatment of bursitis in the foot is a complex problem for the clinician. There is no one standard approach or set treatment for the patient who presents with pain suspected of being secondary to bursal involvement, primarily because there are myriad conditions and anatomical sites involved. Compounding this problem is the wide variation in the presence of these structures from patient to patient. Therefore, each distinct pathologic situation must be examined, diagnosed, and treated, based on its individual anatomical and etiologic factors. In the interest of completeness, the special anatomy of bursae and their specific pathologic conditions are reviewed.
Lapidus: when and why?
The Lapidus procedure for correction of hallux valgus has fallen into disfavor over the years because of its complexity and often poor results. This article re-examines the Lapidus and describes its indications and use. The authors contend that the procedure does have efficacy and a place in the foot surgeon's armamentarium.

Subtalar arthroereisis: a combined technique.
This study reports the evolution and results of an arthroereisis procedure utilizing a talonavicular desmoplasty, tibial tendon suspension (posterior and anterior) and implantation of a Silastic interpositional sphere in the sinus tarsi. Four cases were reviewed with a maximum 6-year follow-up. This study should be considered when presented with a severely hypermobile and symptomatic flatfoot in the child. The procedure is efficacious in combination with a strict postoperative regimen and appropriate biomechanical management.
