[Resection in the treatment of gastro-duodenal ulcer].

The differing results after gastric resection and vagotomy are extensively discussed in regard to mortality, recurrence, dumping syndrome, post-alimentary problems, nutritional deficiencies, and gastric stump carcinoma. The resection is given preference, except in younger ulcer patients.

[D. Documentation and statistics. Therapy code for all surgically active disciplines].

The study group of the German Society for Medical Documentation. Information and Statistics presents a suggested code that is an extension of VESKA. Since it only extends from Head to Gynecology, the Eltze-Eichler code is recommended for Orthopedics and Extremities. A general 6-digit code classified under different facets is being developed.

[Evaluation of therapeutic success in cancer (author's transl)].

The development of generally valid rules for the treatment of cancer obviously requires the comparison of different forms of treatment and their results. The basis for these comparisons is a reliably reproducible and sufficiently detailed internationally applicable classification scheme for the characterization of tumors affecting different organs and their extent on the basis of objective findings. The TNM system proposed by UICC is the only one answering all these demands. It ought to become universally accepted and be the only system used.
