The effects of radioactive iodine in acute as well as fractionated doses on male germ cells were studied. 131I in four acute doses of 10, 15, 20 and 25 microCi was given intraperitoneally. For fractionated doses, 12.5 microCi was given twice with an interval of 24 h. A dose relationship was exhibited between the concentration of radionuclide and the survival fraction of type A spermatogonia, intermediate and type B spermatogonia and preleptotene spermatocytes. The maximum depletion was recorded after 25 microCi. The survival values for this dose group were 40.4, 51.4, and 25.0% for type A cells, intermediate and type B cells and preleptotene spermatocytes, respectively. Fractionated doses of radioiodine also reduced the survival rate of gonadal cells and are more effective than 20 microCi acute dose in decreasing the survival fraction of all types of gonadal cells.
Two infants with ambiguous genitalia were recognised to have XX male syndrome. The propositi had penile abnormalities and hypospadias. Testes were present. G-banded karyotypes of the subjects did not confirm the presence of Y chromosome or a part thereof in the form of translocation. Various theories regarding the presence of testes in the apparent absence of Y chromosome are reviewed.

During routine screening of amino-acid disorders, we detected hypervalinemia in two sibs (a girl of 4 and a boy of 3 years of age) of a consanguineous marriage. There was no excess accumulation or excretion of leucine or isoleucine, which presumably indicates the absence of valine transaminase.
During a survey for genetic disorders, L-Xylulosuria, an autosomal recessive condition, was found to affect three cousins in an inbred family. There were no clinical symptoms.

Experiments were conducted to test the mutagenicity of wheat irradiated with 20 and 200 krad gamma-rays by feeding male and female mice for various periods starting from weaning time. The results obtained from dominant lethal tests, specific locus mutation test, studies on chromosome rearrangements in males and gonadal cell survival studies indicated no positive evidence for genetic and cytogenetic effects.
