[Morphogenesis of early stages of periodontal inflammations].

Morphological signs of dissemination of active inflammatory process beyond the gingiva into the depth of the alveolar process bone tissue, paralleled by numerous destructive changes (bone resorption and lysis of collagen fibers of the periodontal ligament, plunged into the bone) in the periodontium are observed during clinically manifest chronic gingivitis. Hence, in contrast to the concept universally acknowledged in periodontology, despite the seeming clinical "heterogeneity" of gingivitis and periodontitis, these conditions should be regarded as a periodontal inflammation, because, judging by the detected morphological picture, each of the nosological entities acknowledged today (chronic gingivitis, periodontitis) represents just a successive stage of the same chronic inflammatory process differing only quantitatively but not qualitatively.

[Use of a new biological factor--exogenous nitric oxide--during surgical treatment of periodontitis].

In order to improve the efficiency of surgical treatment of periodontitis, the operative wound was exposed to nitrogen oxide (NO) during osteogingivoplasty and on days 3, 5, and 6 after it. Clinical and laboratory data making use of the cytomorphometrical method indicate that NO exposure decreased and maybe prevented secondary injury to the operation wound in up to 46.6% patients, which was confirmed by decrease and even normalization of destruction index and inflammatory destructive index on days 7 and 14, which was not observed in the reference group patients not exposed to NO.

Case-Control Studies↗

[Cytological indices as criteria for assessing periodontal status].

The authors define the complex of criteria for analysis of cytograms of gingival impressions in health and periodontal diseases. Such criteria are needed for objective diagnosis and monitoring of periodontal status over the course of treatment. All the cellular elements were taken account of: different types of epithelial cells, including those with signs of cytopathology and bacterial contamination, connective tissue cells, mononuclears, leukocytes, and fibroblasts. The cytological picture correlated with the status of periodontium and forms and severity of pathological processes developing in it.

[Assessment of human health risk factors in the city of Nizhnekamsk].

Nizhnekamsk is marked not only high by levels of ambient air pollution, but also by the deteriorated qualitative composition of portable water. The present paper gives the results of assessment of the mutagenic activity of tap water. A test system of biological evaluation of portable water is proposed.

[Use of indicators for comprehensive assessment of life quality].

The paper presents a procedure for quantitative sociomedical and hygienic assessment of the quality of life. Several combinations of factors that have the greatest influence on the quality of life and human health: medicodemographic indices; the prevalence and incidence rates of all classes of diseases in different age population groups; health care quality; socioeconomic conditions; natural, climatic, and sanitary conditions; quality of the population's nutrition; sociological assessment of living conditions. Based on the performed study, the indicators were estimated by each combination of factors. The quantitative determination of the integrated index of life quality may be used to assess the socioeconomic position, the health status of the population in some administrative districts and regions over time.

[The therapeutic effect of a biogenic paste in experimental chronic periodontitis].

The efficacy of a biogenic paste containing calcium phosphate and chondroitin sulfate was studied in dogs with experimental chronic periodontitis. The paste exerted a therapeutic effect on the periapical inflammatory destructive foci, relieving the inflammation and stimulating the reparative processes in the bone.
