Effect of age on circadian rhythm of prolactin in normal men.

The 24 h secretion pattern of prolactin was studied in 9 young normal males (aged 22-46) and in 11 older normal men (aged 55-74). Despite considerably reduced duration and quality of sleep, the nocturnal surge in plasma prolactin in elderly men was the same as in young subjects. The overall 24 h secretion pattern and the absolute levels of prolactin are unaltered with age in normal men.

References to dentistry in the Bible and Talmud.

References were brought from the Bible and Talmud which prove that distinctions--morphological and functional--were recognized between incisors, canines, and molars. Diseases of the gums and pains originating from the teeth were cited from the Talmud. Examples were brought which show a clear distinction between a physician and a technician and also forms of healing and tooth-restoration were described. It is interesting that throughout most of these examples the dental patient is invariably a woman. Little has changed in this respect up to the present day, and, the woman still remains the dentist's most frequent patient.

Cushing's disease presenting as pubertal arrest.

The clinical features of Cushing's disease in childhood are usually abnormal fat distribution, moon face, growth failure and hirsutism. Laboratory studies include evidence of cortisol and ACTH hypersecretion. This report concerns a boy who presented only with arrested puberty and growth failure as physical evidence of Cushing's syndrome and showed rapid progression of puberty once pituitary adenomas were removed.
