Penetrating wound of the aorta by a bull's horn.

An 18-year-old boy was gored by a bull while on the ground and he died half-an-hour after the incident. Autopsy showed a tear involving about three-quarters of the circumference of the thoracic aorta. Injuries due to a bull horn are usually in the abdomen but the exact location will depend on a number of other factors.

Injuries caused by home-made explosives.

Eighty-six cases of injuries caused by home-made unconventional explosives were studied. The use of this type of explosive is common in India, Sri Lanka and other Eastern countries. Injuries are due to the blast effect, shrapnel and flash. The blast effect is seen only when the explosion occurs at close range. Accidental injuries to handlers and manufacturers conform to a particular pattern.

Wife battering: a study of sixty cases.

Sixty women who were repeatedly assaulted by their husbands were referred by the police for medicolegal examination between August 1978 and August 1981. In most instances, the injuries were non-grievous and they were mostly contusions situated mainly in the region of the head, the neck and the upper limbs. Weapons used ranged from firewood to knives. In sixty percent of the cases, complaints were made to the police after 10 years of marriage. This is probably due to the fact that the majority of the women were illiterate and not gainfully employed and were totally dependent on their husbands for their existence.
