[Ethacizine in the treatment of psoriasis].

Ethacizine (2-carbethoxyamino-10 (3-diethylaminopropionyl) phenothiazine hydrochloride) has been administered in a daily dose of 150-200 mg for 8-10 weeks to 46 patients with diffuse psoriasis. The treatment has been effective in 84.8% of the patients. Late results, followed up over a year in 40 patients, are fine.

[The effect of nizoral on hypophyseal gonadotropic function and the production of sex steroid hormones by the testes and ovaries in human subjects and experimental animals].

Experiments with mature male and female rats and female mice have shown that nizoral, a nonsteroid estrogenic drug, in a dose of 10 mg/kg stimulates estradiol production in male and female rats, suppresses basal and stimulates LH production, promotes a relative predominance of FSH in female animals, and suppresses FSH in male rats. In humans of a reproductive age, orally taking 200 mg of nizoral during 1-26 weeks, the drug stimulates FSH and LH production, suppressing estradiol production in men. The blood levels of prolactin, testosterone and progesterone are unchanged (the hypophyseal gonadotropic and the peripheral steroid hormones have been radioimmunoassayed). The detected shifts in the hormonal regulation of the reproductive system during nizoral therapy is evidence that nizoral should be very cautiously administered to patients with dyshormonal diseases, with the hormonal profile monitored over the course of treatment.

[Experience with a combined test exam in dermatovenereology].

The traditional oral examination in clinical dermatology is not devoid of shortcomings, the principal of which are subjective estimation of the students' knowledge and a random control. A written examination, representing a complex of tests, is devoid of these drawbacks. The authors share their two-year experience with such examinations, combined with the control of mastering the practical skills in dermatology and venereology. The major advantages of a written test-based examination in a clinical discipline are an objective estimation of the students' knowledge, a universal complex of tests equally difficult for all the students, permitting the control of knowledge in practically all sections of the curriculum, and a more rational organization of the examination session. Such examinations are recommended for dermatology and venereology chairs.

[Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and generalized lymphadenopathy in persons seropositive for the HIV virus].

Of 20 examined Africans who were seropositive to HIV in the Western Blot technique, the syndrome of acquired immunodeficiency was found in 2, generalized lymphoadenopathy in 17; in one patient infection was asymptomatic. A decrease in the T-helper/T-suppressor ratio was noted in all the examinees, in 88% of the patients the Ig level was elevated. Each case was described.
