In order to identity the source of excess secretion of prolactin in male patients, the pituitary tumors of 11 males with hyperprolactinaemia were studied by peroxidase-labelled antibody method using antibodies against human prolactin. Using light microscope, prolactin was demonstrated in most tumour cells in all cases. Ultrastructurally, prolactin was localized mainly on the secretory granules. Immunohistochemically positive cells were thought to correlate with first type of tumour cells which were the major component observed by regular electron microscopic study without immunohistochemical staining. These findings indicated the secretion of excess amount of prolactin by the tumour cells and were considered to be responsible for the category of Male Prolactin Secreting Pituitary Adenoma. The mechanism by which these male hyperprolactinaemic patients are endocrinologically non-functioning is also discussed.

A case of diffuse cerebrospinal gliomatosis is presented, with widespread involvement of the brain, cranial nerves, and spinal cord. This showed a far more extensive distribution of tumor cells than previously reported cases of gliomatosis cerebri. The clinical picture and oncogenesis of gliomatosis cerebri is briefly discussed.
This paper deals with the strength of metal-ceramics and the influence of the thickness of metal and porcelain layer. The metal-ceramic specimens, 30 mm long and 10 mm wide of various each thickness, supported at each ends, were tested by bending to obtain the transverse strength. The thickness of metal layer was changed from 0.2 mm to 1.0 mm, while that of porcelain layer was changed from 0.5 mm to 1.3 mm respectively. Interaction of the thickness of metal or porcelain layer to the fixed total thickness was also investigated comparing with the results of the experiment in which the thickness of one side was constant. From the load-deflection diagram, the maximum work before breaking was surveyed and compared. Main results were as follows. 1) In case of the same total thickness of metal-ceramics, the thicker the metal layer, the greater the transverse strength, maximum work before breaking and maximum deflection. 2) When the metal thickness exceeded one half of the porcelain layer, the transverse strength increased in comparing with value of porcelain itself. 3) The maximum deflection of metal-ceramics by bending before breaking was approximately three or four times as great as that of simple porcelain. 4) The work of the metal-ceramics by bending before breaking was approximately two or three times as that of the simple porcelain. 5) It was imagined that the total strength of the metal-ceramics would be affected by the hardness of the constituent metal and boundary bonding strength.

The patients was a 3-year-old boy with psychomotor retardation and attacked by seizures since 8 months of age. On funduscopy, the maculla presented a cherry-red spot. Serum hexosaminidase A activities were as low as 8.2 percent. Both parents were carriers. The patient was diagnosed as classical Tay-Sachs disease by neurological examination. Diphenylhydantoin was continuously given for 2 years and 2 months till his death. Autopsy revealed swelling of the cerebrum, atrophy and sclerosis of the cerebellum, hepatomegaly and mild enlargement of the lymph nodes. Histologically, the cerebrum showed ballooned swelling of nerve cells, slight gliosis and demyelination, while cerebellar Purkinje's cells and granular cells were degenerated and disappeared. The cerebellar cortex showed small focal spongy degeneration. By electron microscopy, membranous cytoplasmic bodies were found in the nerve cells. The change of brain observed in this case were interpreted as a combined result of (i) essential change to classical Tay-Sachs disease, (ii) ischemic change due to frequently repeated seizures, (iii) chronic toxicity by long-term anticonvulsant administration.
A case of malignant astrocytoma in the frontoparietal parasagittal region with transgression into the overlying dura mater and the skull is presented. Spontaneous transdural extension of a glioma is an extremely rare growth pattern. A mode of transdural extension of this tumor is discussed and related reports are reviewed.

This time trend of hemodynamics and mitochondrial functions were studied to determine whether the ligation of the hepatic artery would result in an antitumor effect on 3'-methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene-induced hepatic carcinoma in rats. The studies revealed that the hepatic tumors were nourished predominantly by the artery and less by the portal vein; the size of the vascular beds in the hepatic tumors decreased as compared with those in the non-tumor area; and as the tumors grew larger, the artery became less predominant and the size of vascular beds decreased further. The mitochondria in the tumor were characterized by impaired growth, impaired oxidative phosphorylation, and by the low activity and nucleotide specificity of membrane bound ATPase. Hepatic dearterialization enhanced ischemia in the tumors and was accompanied by intensified impairment of the aerobic energy production, resulting in necrosis of the tumor. The effects of the dearterialization tended to decrease after the 5th day following the operation. In view of the gross findings upon relaparotomy and the recovery of hemodynamics and mitochondrial functions, this tendency appeared to be chiefly attributed to the increasing collateral circulation.
