[Morphology of the "pancreatorenal syndrome"].

Histological and histochemical studies of the kidneys of white rats with acute pancreonecrosis have demonstrated that as a result of fermentemia and toxemia the kidneys develop a number of successive changes depending on the pattern and the intensity of the pathological process in the pancreas. A picture of the "shock" kidney was seen in the stage of hemorrhagic pancreonecrosis formation. Profound changes in the form of exudative glomerulitis, focal tubular and glomerular necrosis were seen in the kidneys in the stage of "parenchymal" necrosis. The recovery of the renal structure and function correlated with the stage of encapsulation of the necrotic focus in the pancreas.

[Atelectases in surgical and nonsurgical patients (a clinicoanatomical analysis)].

An analysis of the autopsy materials of the N. V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency for 20 years revealed 1181 atelectases including 442 in operated and 739 in nonoperated patients. In the former group atelectases occurred 2.5 times more frequently than in the latter, were more extensive and showed predominance of the reflectory, aspiration, and traumatic types. The relationship of the development of atelectasis and its extensiveness to the age, sex, kind of anesthesia, anatomic area, and duration of surgical intervention, as well as longevity of the patients in the postoperative period was established.

[Myocardial pathomorphology in exotoxic shock].

Morphological, including electron microscopic, examinations of the hearts from 49 patients dying in the stage of shock after acute poisoning revealed general structural alterations in the myocardium typical of shock of any etiology as well as some specific features of the heart involvement related to the kinds of toxicity. The general alterations include damage of microcirculation vessels, rheological blood disorders, interstitial edema, leading to disorders in cardiomyocyte metabolism and development in some of them of dystrophic and necrotic lesions. In acetic acid poisoning, fatty degeneration of cardiomyocytes is more marked; dichlorethane poisoning is characterized by contractural lesions, and that with cardiotoxic substances by diffuse edema of sarcoplasm with "disconnected" organelles.

[Information retrieval system of the pathoanatomical department].

An information search system (ISS) of pathological archive was developed and introduced into practice in the Department of Pathomorphology of the N. V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency. A bank of data for 1977-1979 consisting of 8400 perforated cards corresponding to 4200 autopsies has been accumulated. A computer-oriented card has been developed for recording of preadmission, clinical, and anatomical diagnosis. Treatment of the materials in a ES-1020-1022 computer permitted to reduce the labour consumption in the analysis of clinico-anatomic diagnoses, to improve the quality of documentation, and to create the bank of data based on the archives of the Pathomorphology Department. To increase the volume and value of the input information dictionaries-codifiers of various operative interventions, kinds of anesthesia, histological types of neoplasias, etc. have been created in addition to the "International Statistical Classification of Diseases, Traumas, and Causes of Death". The results obtained with the employment of the "Archive" ISS open broad prospects for creation of an automatized system of pathological archives.

[Complication of resuscitation and intensive therapy].

On the basis of data from the literature and the author's own observations the paper analyses complications of resuscitation and intensive therapy recently classified as a special part of human pathology (resuscitation pathology). A classification of this pathology is suggested, indicating most important complications, causes of their development and preventive measures. Examples of changes in the clinico-morphological picture of the main disease under the influence of resuscitation and intensive therapy are presented.

[Morphological changes in the digestive organs during prolonged space flight on the Kosmos-782 biosatellite].

A reduction in the content of neutral mucopolysaccharides in mucous cells of the neck, a slight decrease in the activity of succinate dehydrogenase and NAD-diaphorase in parietal cells, a decrease in the DNA synthesis rate, and an increase in the area of mitochondria and cristae were detected in the gastric mucosa of rats which were in a long-term space flight. In the small intestine, an increase in the activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and leucine aminopeptidase were found. Morphological changes in the liver consisted in infiltrative adiposity. A similar morphological picture was demonstrated in a synchronous experiment on the earth. These changes, however, were nonspecific and reversible (25 days after rehabilitation the picture did not differ from the animal house control).

[Sutureless anastomoses in gastrointestinal surgery with and without steady magnetic field (experimental study)].

Experimentally in 52 dogs, sutureless gastro-duodenal and ceco-jejunal side-to-side anastomoses were done by means of devices proposed by N.N. Kanshin for connecting void organs, and the features of accretion of the organ walls under the effect of both simple mechanical compression and that with the help of a steady magnetic field were studied. In both variants the process of anastomosis formation completes at 6-7 days after the operation and natural elimination of the compressing elements occurs at 7-8 days. Morphological examinations of sutureless anastomoses formed under a magnetic field or without it revealed no differences between them. The experimental results demonstrated a number of significant advantages of the sutureless methods of tissue connection over the traditional manual intestinal suture.

[Method of microroentgenography using a laser-plasma source of soft x-ray radiation in medicine and biology].

The paper analyses and illustrates experimentally the possibilities of using the method of microroentgenography for the analysis of the structure and element composition of thin sections of biological tissues. Soft roentgen radiation of laser plasma formed by focusing of a sufficiently powerful laser impulse on the surface of a solid-body target is used. The method requires no preliminary treatment of the specimens.

[Acute renal insufficiency in exogenous poisoning (problems of classification and pathogenesis)].

Acute renal insufficiency (ARI) -- one of the most frequent manifestations of many exogenous intoxications. On the ground of a morphological investigation of 625 kidneys in poisoning with various poisons, the authors have come to the conclusion that the acute nephrotic syndrome is the basis of ARI in a "toxic" kidney". A morphological classification of the nephrotic syndrome is given: necrotic nephrosis hydropic nephrosis (glycolic nephrosis), cortical necrosis of the kidney, excretory nephrosis, acute lipid nephrosis. Morphological characteristics of the nephrotic syndrome forms referred to above are presented. Lesions of the kidney in exogenous intoxications are caused first of all by the direct toxic action of a poison. Toxic shock is an important factor in the development of ARI.
