[Immune status during the combined use of microwave hyperthermia and prospidin in animals with transplantable tumors].

Experiments were conducted to study the time course of changes of some immunological indices in animals after a combined use of local hyperthermia and course use of prospidin. Local microwave hyperthermia used at the beginning of a course of prospidin caused a decrease in some indices of immunity which was much lower than in case of the use of only prospidin or hyperthermia.

[Conservative operations combined with interstitial radiotherapy in the combined treatment of early-stage breast cancer patients].

Combined application of function-saving surgical procedure and intratumoral radiotherapy in cases of early breast cancer is of value since it is followed by stable remission in the majority of patients and produces a good cosmetic and, therefore, psychologic, effect. Function-saving surgery followed by irradiation to prevent local dissemination should be performed for early breast cancer at specialized oncological establishments. Patients should be followed-up closely.

[Morphological characteristics of rectal adenocarcinoma after radiation therapy using a 25-MeV betatron].

The effect of brehmstrahlung irradiation from a 25 MEV betatron on rectal adenocarcinoma was studied in 34 patients in comparison with control material from 61 patients. It was found that pronounced changes in tumor tissue are caused by such preoperative treatment: tumor is reduced in size, DNA synthesis and mitotic activity are suppressed considerably and pathological mitoses increase. Morphological observations show that rectal adenocarcinoma is markedly susceptible to brehmstrahlung irradiation from a 25 MEV betatron.

[The effectiveness of treatment for breast cancer patients].

The study of late results of treatment in 1166 patients with breast cancer permitted to find the percentage of a 5-year survival to be equal to 55.58, 37.93% of patients survived for 10 years, 28.25% -- for 15 years. In the first stage a 5-year survival was 87.20%, while in the second and third -- 57.7% and 31.56% of patients survived for 5 years, accordingly. The modern methods of radiotherapy (radiosurgical method, interstitial gamma therapy with Au-198 granules, distance grammatherapy on the machine LUCH) enhanced the efficacy of therapeutic measures in patients with widespread breast cancer. A complex diagnosis -- cytology, non-contrast mammography and mathematical analysis by means of a computer contributes to recognition of early forms of breast cancer.
