[Public knowledge and attitude towards colorectal cancer].

The public's knowledge and attitude concerning cancer were studied in 1,422 subjects aged 16 to 65 who attended the Center of Preventive Medicine in Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy during the first months of 1988. There was an obvious lack of knowledge about predisposing factors and early symptoms of colorectal cancer with important differences between age groups and socio-educational levels. Only 40% of the population knew at least one risk factor for this cancer (food) or an early symptom (generally bleeding), one out of three subjects was able to quote a screening method (fecal occult blood test, radiology, endoscopy). The public's knowledge about early detection of colorectal cancer must be improved. Each practitioner should fell concerned and involve himself in health education in order to improve the prevention of this cancer, by modifying the public's attitude toward risk factors and early diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

Adolescent

[The health of adolescents: what do parents think about it?].

Parental care of adolescent children was studied in 501 families who attended the Centre of Preventive Medicine of Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy. The health of their adolescent children was the parents' main concern and they considered morale, hygiene and alimentation as being the most important health determinants. Twenty-eight per cent of the parents indicated that they were anxious about their adolescent children. When they contacted the Centre of Preventive Medicine, parents were mostly seeking a regular check-up and information for their offspring. A correspondence analysis showed a breakdown of the parents into several groups, according to their responses and degree of concern for the health of their adolescents.

Child

[Knowledge, behavior and attitude with respect to cardio-vascular diseases].

972 males and females more than 25 years old were asked by a self-questionnaire about cardiovascular disease (CVD): what do they know and how? What do they think they should do to prevent it? What do they personally do? What do they expect from physicians, society, people themselves? Findings indicate that CVD is regarded as an important problem by most of people. One in two subjects worries about heart disease. 70 p. 100 know at least one cardiovascular disease (infarct more often). 40 p. 100 can quote causes of CVD, emphasizing eating-habits, smoking and drinking, way of life. A correspondences analysis allows to establish a typology of responses: it makes appear clear differences in information according to social class, differences in concern about CVD linked namely with personal disease's experience, differences in psychological attitudes towards CVD's risk. Findings lead to set the problem of turning preventive knowledge into effective changes in health behaviour.

Adult

How a child's blood pressure is related to psychological influences. Some results with R. Zazzo's Bestiary Test.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships between some psychological characteristics and blood pressure. We used the Bestiary Test which gives an impression of the child's psychological characteristics and his way of coping with personal conflicts. The test was applied to 766 children between the ages of 4-10 years. By discriminant analysis we established relations between systolic blood pressure, and the responses to the test. By correspondence analysis we found that hypertensive children have a tendency to perceive human relationships, especially those between males and females, as aggressive.

Adaptation, Psychological

[Psychological factors and blood pressure in children. Various results using Zazzo's Bestiary Test].

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships between psychological characteristics and blood pressure. Through animal metaphor R. Zazzo's Bestiary test indicates the child's basic psychological position and his way of coping with his personal conflicts. The test was administered to 766 children between the ages of 4-10 years. The links between diastolic and systolic blood pressure values, and the children's responses to the test were established by several discriminant analyses. A correspondence-analysis threw light on the psychological meaning of these relationships by indicating in hypertensive children a tendency towards perceiving human relationships as aggressive, especially between males and females.
