Ataxia-telangiectasia.

The clinical and radiographic features of twenty-two cases of ataxia-telangiectasia are reviewed. Severity of pulmonary manifestations tended to correlate closely with severity of immunodeficiency. Observations are made upon the problem of intercurrent malignancy in ataxia-telangiectasia. The radiographic studies of patients seen at the National Institutes of Health with A-T were reviewed retrospectively and correlated with degrees of immunodeficiency determined clinically. Three fairly distinct groups with high, intermediate and low incidence of sinopulmonary disease were found. Comment is made on the problem of increased malignancy in A-T and possible clues in the detection by the radiologist.

MR imaging of the liver in primary hepatocellular carcinoma.

In 10 patients with hepatoma, magnetic resonance (MR) and CT of the liver were subjectively compared and correlated with surgical or autopsy findings. In five cases MR defined the extent of the tumor better. Magnetic resonance was particularly useful in differentiating the tumor from otherwise abnormal areas of the liver, mostly focal cirrhosis. Magnetic resonance has the advantage of demonstrating major vessels in relation to the hepatoma without injection of any contrast agent. Calcifications well visualized on CT are not seen on MR. The lack of dynamic bolus CT in the majority of our cases as well as our inability to examine the entire liver with all three MR pulse sequences because of time restraint are significant limitations of this retrospective study.

Lymphoma in a pelvic spleen: CT features.

A case of recurrent lymphoma presenting as a pelvic mass on CT is described. At surgery this proved to represent an ectopic spleen with lymphomatous infiltration.

Direct infusion of EOE-13 into the hepatic artery. Experimental evaluation of safety in monkeys.

Ethiodized Oil Emulsion 13 (EOE-13) is an intravenous liver-spleen specific CT contrast agent. We infused EOE-13 directly into the hepatic arteries of five rhesus monkeys. Normal saline was administered in the same fashion in two control animals. Serial laboratory studies showed no major toxicity over a seven-day period. Intra-arterial EOE-13 has potential usefulness in the evaluation of hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy.
