Malignant melanoma of the choroid in a naevus of Ota.

A rare case of choroidal malignant melanoma in a naevus of Ota is described. This is the first reported case from Asia outside the Japanese population. This case illustrates the need for close observation of all pigmented lesions of the eye.

Ninety-eight fixed drug eruptions with provocation tests.

Ninety-eight patients having fixed drug eruptions were subjected to provocation tests. Cutaneous involvement was seen in 43, mucous membrane in 33 patients, while cutaneous and mucous membrane involvement was seen in 22 patients. The causative drugs were found to be trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole (45), acetylsalicylic acid (24), hyoscine butylbromide (Buscopan) (8), ibuprofen (Brufen) (6), oxyphenbutazone (6), tetracycline hydrochloride (2), phenolphthalein (1) and phenobarbitone (1). There was evidence of cross-sensitivity between oxyphenbutazone and phenylbutazone.

Mechanism of erythrocyte aggregate formation in presence of magnetic field and dextrans as analyzed by laser light scattering.

The mechanism of erythrocyte aggregation has been studied in normal plasma, dextran 40 and dextran 70 suspensions in presence and absence of magnetic field at a concentration of 5 percent by laser light scattering. The inhomogeneous magnetic field enhances the aggregating tendency of normal erythrocytes. The growth of aggregates due to dextran 70 is enhanced in presence of magnetic field. On the other hand the disaggregating effect of dextran 40 is reduced due to this field. The induced changes due to magnetic field during the development of erythrocyte aggregates in these media are determined.
