Seven strains of Tettnang virus were isolated in Czechoslovakia: 3 from Ixodes ricinus tick nymphs, males and females, one from Dermacentor reticulatus tick females, one from Aedes cantans mosquitoes and two strains from the brains of Clethrionomys glareolus and Apodemus flavicollis small rodents.
A previously undescribed virus was isolated from Argas persicus ticks collected on sentinel chicken in western Slovakia. The strain was lethal for suckling mice only after intracerebral inoculation. No symptoms were induced in adult mice. The virus strain was insensitive to sodium deoxycholate and resistant to ether treatment. An antigen prepared from the virus did not agglutinate goose or human O erythrocytes. The single strain obtained in 1976 appeared to be untrelated to a large number of known arboviruses when tested by the complement-fixation reaction.
Avian influenza virus A/Larus 36/77 (Hav7Nav1) was isolated in 1977 from a trinket (Larus ridibundus) embryo. This result suggests the possibility of vertical transmission of influenza A virus.

In the course of studies on influenza virus ecology, Influenzavirus A was isolated from a cloacal smear from a wild duck (Anas platyrhynchos) caught in west Slovakia. The strain was identified as A(Hav7Nav1). The results of virus isolation experiments from other species of aquatic and other small birds were negative.
The first isolation of encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus from the blood and brain of a pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) captured in Moravia is reported. Complement-fixation (CF) tests with reference antisera revealed no relationship to any of a wide range of known arboviruses.

After formalin treatment of sucrose-acetone antigens, prepared from different tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus strains, their haemagglutination (HA) activity was preserved or even higher than that of untreated antigens. Formalin-treated TBE antigen was non-infectious and thus may be recommended for routine work to avoid laboratory infections.

Three West Nile (WN) virus strains were isolated from the blood of birds (Tringa ochropus, Vanellus vanellus and Streptopenia turtur) captured in south Slovakia. One strain of tick-borne encephalitis (TE) virus was isolated from the blood of Tringa ochropus captured in south Moravia.
