Leishmaniasis recidivans treated with sodium stibogluconate.

Two cases of leishmaniasis recidivans of twenty years' duration were treated intravenously with sodium stibogluconate (Pentostam) with good results. Before treatment, histologic examination of a biopsy specimen revealed many Leishman-Donovan (LD) bodies. After treatment, repeated biopsies done in one of the cases revealed only scar tissue. We recommended treatment with sodium stibogluconate in cases of leishmaniasis recidivans, although an ideal treatment for this condition still does not exist.

General porokeratosis associated with primary hypoparathyroidism.

A case of generalized porokeratosis occurring in a man with primary hypoparathyroidism is reported herein. This, apparently, is the first reported case of these two disorders co-existing in a single patient. His porokeratotic skin changes were of wide morphologic and clinical variation and presented in the following forms: 1. Mibelli's plaque-type; 2. superficial disseminated eruptive-form; and 3. clavi-like lesions.

Favus.

Favus has become a rarly found chronic fungal infection mainly caused by Trichophyton schoenleini and occasionally by Trichophyton violaceum or Microsporum gypseum. It can still be found in areas where the population suffers from poor hygiene and malnutrition. Cases are seen in the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East, Asia, Poland, Russia, France, and the Balkans. Isolated cases have also been reported from South Africa, Mexico, Central America, and Canada. Cases are encountered occasionally in the United States, almost exclusively in immigrants.

Herpes zoster in a husband and wife.

The wife of a 75-year-old man with zoster began to suffer from this disease some 24 days after is appeared in her husband. Although zoster is generally regarded to be an endogenously noncommunicable disease, the case reported herein suggests that the infection was exogenously communicated. The literature pointing up that zoster may possibly be acquired exogenously, particularly in immunosuppressed patients, is extensively reviewed.

Multiple clear cell acanthomas.

Clear cell acanthoma is usually a solitary benign epidermal tumor. Multiple lesions are rarely encountered, and only 11 such cases could be found in the literature. In all cases, the lesions were limited to the lower extremities. A few of the patients have had ichthyosis and/or varicose veins. We describe a 12th patient who, in addition to leg lesions, had lesions on the trunk and associated dry skin.
