PURPOSE: Congenital dacryocystocele is a rare anomaly in the newborn child. The swelling of lachrymal sac is observed by birth and it is associated with obstruction of lachrymal system either above or below lachrymal sac. METHODS: Diagnosis was made by clinical observation. Some ancillary examinations, such as ultrasonography, tomography, and rhinoscopy, were useful. RESULTS: The authors describe the clinical case of a newborn with a unilateral congenital dacryocystocele. This anomaly was successfully treated with probing and marsupialization of the nasal cyst. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of this congenital anomaly is by light compressive massage, probing with silicone intubation of lachrymal system to assure prolonged permeability of the system, or with marsupialization of the nasal cyst. In some cases with intranasal extension of dacryocystocele, collaboration with an otolaryngologist may be necessary.

This study is an update of the clinico-anatomical characteristics of esophageal cancer, as well as the different current therapeutic modalities, their indications and results. The therapeutic protocol for the study and treatment of epidermoid cancer of the esophages followed in the University Clinic of Navarra is likewise espounded.
Intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) is a rather interesting therapeutic modality in multidisciplinary oncology. Its greatest advantages reside in the approach of deeply seeded abdomino-pelvic tumors. Its inclusion in the therapeutic approach of renal carcinoma with a high local relapse rate has been analyzed in this study in relation to its technical aspects and preliminary clinical results. 11 stage III or IV patients or with local relapse in lumbar fossa were treated with nephrectomy or exeresis surgery and OIRT (10-20 Gy). Surgical exposure of the lumbar fossa and nodal drainage areas was appropriate in dal cases. No toxic signs or sequellae relating to OIRT were observed. Local tumor controls at 8 months of follow-up on the average (range from 2 to 33 months), was 82%. The data obtained in this series suggest the viability of the combined approach nephrectomy or rescue surgery and IORT. The initial clinical results suggest HIGH local tumor control without an increase in the toxicity rate or complications.

Hepatic metastasis is the major cause of death in advanced cancer of the colon and rectum. Various modes of therapy have been attempted with only partial success. Infusion of cytotoxic agents into the hepatic artery has allowed a higher concentration of drug into the tumor capillary bed than is achievable with intravenous administration. We review the data on therapeutic outcome, administration techniques and toxicity of hepatic arterial chemotherapy for colorectal cancer metastatic to the liver.

In 542 old calculi belonging to the collection complied by Dr. P. Cifuentes Díaz, we have found newberyte in 81 calculi (14.9%). Newberyte appears in the struvite and apatite calculi in the form of small crystals looking like a mosaic. This results from the transformation of the struvite when it loses NH3 and H2O which we have only found in old urinary calculi.
Osteopetrosis is a rare inherited disease with incidence of 1:500.000 in north american population and characterized by increased skeletal density and fractures. Clinically three types can be distinguished: infantile malignant form, benign form of adult and intermediate type. We report two cases of intermediate form describing and commenting the clinical and radiological features.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the seasonality of the psychiatric emergencies visited in a casualty department, prospectively, during twelve consecutive months. The data were obtained with a record card containing clinics, sociodemographics, and related to consulting moment variables. During the months comprised between June to September, the results showed a general increase on the majority diagnostics and/or syndromics consulting reasons, with mention special to affective disorders. The increase showed in these entities could be related with the summer increase in Avila population. Because of these reason, these results, over all, those referred to July and August, should be interpreted with caution. These and other considerations are commented on the discussion.
