Whole-body autoradiography of 99Tcm-labelled ethylene-1-hydroxy-1, 1-diphosphonate (EHDP) in young rats.

The distribution of 99Tcm after intraperitoneal injection of 99Tcm-labelled ethylene-1-hydroxy-1, 1-diphosphonate (EHDP) in young albino rats was investigated by whole-body autoradiography. The distribution was characterized by a rapid and high uptake in bone and dentine, a rapid but moderate uptake in the urinary system and a slow and slight uptake in liver and spleen.

Whole-body autoradiography of 99Tcm-labelled pyrophosphate and related compounds in young rats.

The distribution of 99Tcm-labelled pyrophosphate in young rats was analysed by wholebody autoradiography and compared with those observed for 99Tcm-pertechnetate, 32P-labelled pyrophosphate and 85Sr-chloride. 99Tcm-labelled pyrophosphate was rapidly accumulated in bone and dentine and was similar to 32P-labelled pyrophosphate and 85Sr-chloride. The uptake of these substances in developing enamel was rather low in contrast to 99Tcm-pertechnetate, which had no affinity for bone.

Radiation dosimetry in tomography of the teeth and jaws using a multi-film cassette.

The absorbed doses and energy imparted in lateral and antero-posterior tomography of the teeth and jaws were measured. A multi-film cassette with 5 films was exposed using a diameter of the circular collimator of 1.5 cm. With one exception, the absorbed doses were below 1 mGy. The parotid gland towards the roentgen tube received about 2 mGy in lateral tomography of the mandibular third molar. The energy imparted in lateral tomography was 0.6 mJ and in antero-posterior tomography about 2.5 mJ. Since the radiation doses in tomography of the teeth and jaws were low compared with estimated risk levels, they should not deter from using tomography.
