Zygomatic leiomyoma. Case report.

Leiomyoma is a benign tumor that originates from the smooth muscle. If often develops in the uterus and in organs rich of smooth muscle like bowel and subcutaneous tissue. It is infrequently observed in the oral nasal cavities or in paranasal sinuses. The authors, after an accurate revision of the literature, present their first case of zygomatic leiomyoma. They underline the diagnostic aspects in relationship to histologic and immunohistochemical examinations, for surgical therapy.

Anthelix-conchal reconstruction with postauricular "revolving door" island flap.

The postauricular "revolving door" island flap is commonly used to reconstruct the conchal area after ablative surgery. This procedure may also be used to reconstruct the anthelix-conchal area after surgical removal of a squamous cell carcinoma of the external ear. The technique is simple and safe, and it can be performed as a one-stage procedure; moreover, excellent aesthetic results can be achieved.

[Surgical treatment of neoplasms of the lip].

The authors examine the surgical treatment of lip cancer and describe the reconstructive techniques used for various tumour localisation and extensions. In addition, they illustrate the current opinions regarding the treatment of satellite lymph node areas.

[Samples of iliac crest bone. A case report review and clinico-statistical evaluation].

The paper examines 91 cases of iliac crest bone samples used in maxillofacial surgery for different purposes and evaluates the immediate and later complications which arise in the site of origin. The most frequent immediate complications are walking difficulties, hematoma, and sensitivity disturbances. Later complications usually include: esthetic deficits (depression of the crestal surface), walking difficulties, and a persistent neurological deficit. The complications observed substantially match those reported in the literature.

[Microcystic adnexal carcinoma. A case report].

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare cutaneous neoplasm, locally aggressive, recently recognized as a clinicopathologic entity. Histologically, MAC shows both ductal and pilar differentiation. In this article we discuss a case of 52-year-old woman with MAC on the inferior lip, early recurred after initial excision.

[Odontogenic sinusitis. An evaluation and the radiologic checkup protocol after a Caldwell-Luc intervention].

A homogeneous group of 30 patients who were operated over a 5-year period for odontogenic sinusitis using a buccosinusal communication following Caldwell-Luc's technique were studied. A marked discrepancy between the conventional X-ray picture and the clinical picture emerged from these 30 case studies. So as to find an explanation for this discrepancy, all patients underwent CAT tests. On the basis of a critical evaluation of the results obtained it is suggested that patients be followed using a postoperative instrumental control protocol.

Focal Infection, Dental↗

[Burkitt's lymphoma. A case report].

This paper presents a case of a 21 year-old female with mandibular and abdominal involved sites. Prognosis is related to an early diagnosis and chemotherapy can be started while lymphoma is still not widespread.

[Metamorphosis of Hyla arborea and of Rana esculenta in conditions of environmental pollution: a biostatistical study].

An extention to the largest possible numbers of animal species is a basic requirement when damages induced by pollutants are studies with a specific purpose of defining the concentrations of pollutants compatible with the conservation of the biochemical system. Animals should be bred in standard conditions, and the natural habitat is to be reproduced in the laboratory. The studies should also be planned favoring these statistical elaborations which are suitable of application also in case of interruption of the experimental design. The results of two experiments are reported in example, in which the metamorphoses of Rana esculenta and Hyla arborea are compared in standard conditions and during pollution with "fanghi rossi" (containing titanium dioxide).
