Intracardiac metastases from malignant teratoma of the testis.

Cisplatin-based chemotherapeutic regimens are highly successful at controlling testicular teratomas, returning tumor markers to normal in 76% of patients. However, bulky residual disease persists in 24%, and surgical excision of these deposits is becoming increasingly common. This approach is justified, because the histologic characteristics of such deposits gives valuable prognostic information, allowing a decision to be made regarding additional therapy, and relapse of apparently stable disease may occur. Excision of residual bulky disease may be achieved safely. We have recently successfully excised an intracardiac metastasis in a patient with no demonstrable extrathoracic disease and normal serum marker levels.

Thymolipoma in association with Hodgkin's disease.

Thymolipomas are rare mediastinal tumors. They have been described with a variety of systemic diseases. To our knowledge they have never been described in association with Hodgkin's disease. The significance of this association is unknown.

The sarcomere length dependence of the rate of heat production during isometric tetanic contraction of frog muscles.

Heat production and force have been measured as a function of sarcomere length between 1.6 and 3.0 microns during isometric tetani at 0 degree C for two types of frog muscle: sartorius and extensor longus digiti iv (e.l.d. iv). Stable heat rate declines linearly with increasing sarcomere length above 2.20 microns for both e.l.d. iv and sartorius muscles. In sartorius muscle stable heat rate remains at or near its maximum value between 1.75 and 2.20 microns while force decreases. In e.l.d. iv muscle, both stable heat rate and force decline linearly as sarcomere length decreases below 2.20 microns.

Iodination of morphine and dihydromorphine, as related to radioimmunoassay.

Direct iodination of morphine or dihydromorphine with iodine-125 results in products that bind to antibody raised by immunization of animals with a 3-O-carboxymethylmorphine/bovine serum albumin immunogen. Iodination of morphine or dihydromorphine with iodine-127 under identical conditions failed to yield these immunologically active products, suggesting that the results obtained with iodine-125 are in part due to a radiolytic reaction not observed with the iodine-127.
