[Pelvic ectopia of the kidney in children].

The authors presented the problem of pelvic ectopia of the kidney in children on their two patients. Pelvic ectopia of the kidney is a rare anomaly, while an ectopia of only one kidney is an extremely rare phenomemon. One of the two patients, which are the subject of this summary, was an 18 months old child who had one normal kidney and one ectopic kidney; a nephrectomy was performed. The second patient was an 11 years old child with pelvic ectopia of only one kidney, and a cysto-ureteric reflux. In this case, a reimplantation of the ureter into the vertex of the urinary bladder was performed.

[Inguinal hernia in childhood. Analysis of late results of surgery using Ferguson's method].

In the surgical treatment of hernias in children, many differences of opinion still exist, especially in the selection of the type of procedure to be used. The authors have applied the Ferguson Method in the repair of Inguinal hernias as a method of choice. Along with a high resection of Processus Vaginalis of the peritoneum, the anterior wall of Canalis Inguinalis is reinforced without transposing the Funiculus Spermaticus. To evaluate the success of this method, the authors made a late postoperative analysis. Examinations were made on 106 children of various ages who had unilateral inguinal hernia repairs one to two years prior. The unoperated contralateral inguinal canal served as a control by which eventual changes of testis could be evaluated. Clinical examinations involved determination of whether or not a recidive hernia exits, as well as the condition, size and consistency of the testis. Accordingly, poor postoperative results using the Ferguson method were less than one percent.

Antireflux ureterocystostomy at the vertex of the bladder.

This is the first report on the technique and the results of an antireflux ureterocystostomy in the vault of the bladder. During the last 3 years, a total of 106 antireflux ureterocystostomies at the vertex of the urinary bladder has been performed. In 93 cases without another preceding antireflux operation, only 2 (2-1%) recurrent refluxes were found, whereas in 13 cases where an antireflux operation had been performed previously, 4 cases of recurrent reflux were seen, making a 30% rate of operative failure in this particular group. In all other cases the end result was excellent; the urine has become negative on culture and the dilatation of the ureter has subsided.
