[Magnetic resonance imaging of high anorectal malformations. A preliminary study apropos of 15 cases].

High level ano-rectal anomalies were evaluated by Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in 15 patients. One neonate and two infants were evaluated preoperatively. Sagittal slices identified properly the blind rectal end in the 3 cases. Associated anomalies (tethered spinal cord, right ectopic kidney in 1 case, recto-urinary fistula in another case, upper excretory dilatation in 2 cases) were found during the same examination. In the post-operative period (12 cases), major data were obtained on axial transverse slices. When pulled-through intestine is outside the levator sling, re-do-surgery can be indicated. MRI appears as an accurate tool to assess these anomalies.

[Digitalized angiography of the thorax in children].

Technical aspects and indications for the use of digital subtraction angiography of thorax in 109 children are discussed, and the interest of this exploratory method emphasized in chronic respiratory disease in children. Results obtained are compared with other investigations for screening of bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Although generally reliable for exploration of thoracic aorta anomalies (coarctation and abnormal vascular arch) it is considered to be incompletely effective for investigation of congenital heart disease.

[Echographic aspects of candidiasis of the urinary tract in infants. Apropos of 2 cases].

Predisposing factors in two children with urinary tract candidiasis included: neonatal period, uropathy with malformation, massive antibiotic therapy. Ultrasound images showed dilated excretory cavities of variable echo intensities and without posterior shadow cone. Diagnosis was confirmed by urine culture and a satisfactory outcome obtained by specific therapy and surgery for malformations.

[Adrenal cystic lymphangioma. Report of a case].

A case of right adrenal cystic lymphangioma in a 34-year-old women is reported. The unilocular and large form of this structure raised a twin problem: its origin and its nature. The place of ultrasonography and of computed tomography is predominant in the investigation of cystic structures of the adrenal. The etiological diagnosis is in fact based upon histopathology or, in certain cases, percutaneous puncture.

[Neonatal Haemophilus influenzae infection. Apropos of 4 cases].

Four cases of neonatal haemophilus influenzae have been reported in Intensive Care Unite of Timone's Hospital (Marseille) during a 2 year period. Three of the cases were due to non typable organism, one was a type III. Hemoculture was positive twice. None of the patients had meningitis. Clinically it was a neonatal septicemia without particularity. Prognosis is bad (50% mortality). Several hypothesis have been proposed to explain the increase of the frequency of this neonatal infection. One of the major problem is the choice and the moment of prescription of antibiotherapy.

[Striated and delayed nephrography].

About a case of striated and delayed nephrogram seen on a diabetic child, authors come back to the different etiologies. Among them, the tubular precipitation of Tamm-Horsfall protein seems to be given like on the right possibilities. Whatever is its etiology, the mechanism of striated appearance is always the same, being founded on the radiated disposal of the collecting ducts and on a tubular stasis beeing with iodine concentration.

[Multilocular cystadenoma of the pancreas. An uncommon tumor in the child].

A 9-month-old infant presented with a multilocular pancreatic cystadenoma. Pathological features of this extremely rare lesion in children are outlined and the relevant literature reviewed. Diagnostic methods are analyzed, and emphasis placed on the difficulty of diagnosis of non-renal multicystic abdominal masses by ultrasound imaging in children.

[Tracheal agenesis: CT diagnosis].

Tracheal agenesis is an exceptional congenital malformation of the airway with fatal consequences. A case of a newborn infant presenting with respiratory distress is reported. Laryngoscopy and helical CT of the airway confirmed the diagnosis of tracheal agenesis with tracheo-esophageal fistula and laryngeal agenesis.

Epiphyseal distraction and centrally located bone bar: an experimental study in the rabbit.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the force required for an epiphysiolysis in vitro in the distal femoral growth plate of rabbits with different sized central physeal bone bars. The bars were operatively induced by drilling through the physis. An epiphyseal distraction was then performed, and the response was evaluated. Forty rabbits (67 femurs) divided into five groups were used for experimentation. Group A had not been operated on and manifested no physeal bone bridge. Groups B, C, D, and E manifested some bone bridges obtained surgically by drills 2, 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5 mm in diameter, respectively. The average force required to obtain an epiphysiolysis is not statistically significant in the different groups. However, we noted that the epiphysiolysis differed depending on the diameter of the surgically performed bridge. Group E was Salter-Harris type II fractures, whereas groups A, B, and C were type I fractures. Group D comprised both types.

Acetabular anteversion in children.

Acetabular anteversion analysis was performed in 143 normal children, who ranged in age from 1 to 15 years. The mean anteversion value, which remained constant during growth, was 13 degrees.

[X-ray computed tomography of fractures of the calcaneum. Apropos of 30 cases].

Computed tomography and lateral plain films have been studied in 30 fractures of calcaneus. C.T. allows us to study in the same time the two feet, with low mobilisation. Two planes are mandatory: --one, along the long axis of the calcaneus, allows a good evaluation of calcaneo-cuboïd joint, of the quality of the bone structure and of the large fragments or comminution; --the other one (coronal in 18 cases of along the tuberosity in 16 cases) shows directly the subtalar joint lesions (impaction, joint incongruence) and plantar fracture line. This study conclude that CT is useful for the evaluation of the severity calcaneus fractures and for treatment selection because of a better evaluation of lesions.
