[Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques in pregnancy].

PUPPP is a distinct kind of dermatosis that occurs in pregnancy and is characterized by pruritic, mostly urticarial papules. The lesions usually occur during the last trimenon and regress shortly after delivery. In contrast to other types of dermatosis in pregnancy (e.g., herpes gestationis), PUPPP is not associated with a higher incidence of fetal or maternal complications. It is relatively rare and has only occasionally been mentioned in the German literature. The clinical features and courses of eight patients are described, and the differential diagnosis is discussed with regard to other dermatoses of pregnancy.

[Cutaneous metastatic angiosarcoma of the forearm].

Cutaneous angiosarcoma are rare tumours and occur particularly rarely on the extremities. There are only a few reports in the literature concerning their clinical and catamnestic behaviour. We report the case of a 57-year-old male North African with a large exophytic and nodular tumour of the left forearm that showed a vasoformative histological pattern. The endothelial cell origin was proven by immunocytochemistry using endothelial cell antibodies such as anti-vWf (syn.:anti F VIII R:Ag), UEA I and the monoclonal antibody BMA 120. The patient's history revealed that the neoplasm had grown slowly for more than 15 years. After partial resection, the tumour enlarged rapidly and the patient died of widespread metastases.

Morphological predictors of survival in colorectal carcinoma: univariate and multivariate analysis.

In 150 curative resected adenocarcinomas of the large bowel we analyzed the morphological parameters of the primary tumor and lymph node involvement which most efficiently expressed the relationship to survival time. Using univariate survival analysis (product limit estimator according Kaplan-Meier), several macroscopical and microscopical parameters of the primary tumor and lymph node involvement significantly correlated with survival time. A multivariate survival analysis of covariates according to the Cox regression model revealed that the significant correlations of all these parameters were expressed by a set of five variables: pT stage, number of inflammatory cells, sex, age, and pN stage. As shown by the Kaplan-Meier test, this set of variables allowed a more precise prediction of survival time than mere staging according to the TNM system. Parametric multiple stepwise survival analysis was inefficient. No distinct relationship was found between the morphology of the primary tumor and the involvement of lymph nodes.

Cutaneous cryptococcosis as the first symptom of a disseminated cryptococcosis in a patient with lymphogranulomatosis X.

A 63-year-old patient, known to have suffered from lymphogranulomatosis X for 4 years is reported, in whom a cutaneous cryptococcosis appeared as first sign of a disseminated cryptococcosis. Despite systemic therapy with amphotericin B, the patient died after a period of 2 months. Differential diagnosis of skin tumours of immunosuppressed patients includes rare skin mycoses, and both histological and mycological examinations should be performed.

Elastosis and cancer.

Recently we have shown that the autofluorescence within or just outside of a malignant tumor is rather small or large resp. in comparison to healthy tissue when excited at 365 nm. Studies with unfixed, unstained cryosections of skin with melanomas have revealed bulky fiber-like structures with a high fluorescence intensity just outside of a malignant tumor. Using polarized light, the structures could be identified as elastic fibers. This was also confirmed by studies on arterial walls.
