[Cytological composition of lymph in fever reaction].

This work deals with an investigation into the lymph cytologic composition of thoracic lymph duct of rabbits in fever reaction (FR) of various duration. FR was accompanied by quantitative and qualitative shifts in lymph cytologic composition. There was an alternative rise and fall of the leucocyte number in the first hours of fever. The number of little and medium leucocytes decreased while the number of eosinophiles, insufficiently differentiated cells-blasts, large lymphocytes, prolymphocytes increased. Our investigations revealed a significant role played by the lymphatic system in lymphoid cells mobilization in FR, which is evident by a considerable lymphocyte number gaining entrance to the blood through thoracic duct.

[Activity of several carbohydrate exchange enzymes in the lymph during fever reaction].

This work includes a comparative study of aldolase enzyme activity, LDG and its isoenzymes in thoracic duct lymph and blood serum of rabbits in fever reaction dynamics of various duration. Irrespective of its duration the fever was followed by a significant activation of investigated enzymes in the body liquids. However, in many day fever reaction a rise of LDG level in the lymph was more prolonged then that in the blood. The above studies make it possible to assume that the released enzymes in fever reaction are primarily resorbed by lymphatic capillaries and their activity indices in the blood serum are largely evidenced by the transport function of the lymphatic system.

[Amino acid composition of the lymph and blood in fever reactions of different durations].

The amino acid composition of the thoracic duct lymph and blood following fever reactions (FR) of various duration has been studied in the experiments on rabbits. The experiments have shown that some changes in protein metabolism in FR are primarily manifested in amino acid lymph composition. Irrespective of FR duration the amino acid content in the lymph almost always increases, which confirms the opinion concerning catabolic process predominance in protein metabolism during FR. The lack of "cumulative" conditions in the blood, amino acid dilution in the large volume of the circulating blood, as well as the increase of vascular permeability during FR cause less marked increase in amino acid content in the blood than in the lymph.

[Effect of the fever reaction on the kallikrein-kinin system of the lymph and blood].

The dynamics of kallikrein-kinin system components in the lymph of thoracic duct and blood following fever reaction of various duration has been studied in the experiment on rabbits. The experiments have shown that in prolonged fever reaction there are qualitative disorders in kinin system components ratio indicative of break in the system of regulatory links, its exhaustion and transformation of the physiological reactions into the pathogenic ones. One may assume that changes in kallikrein-kinin system activity in body fluid are the links in the complex of pathogenic disorders in the organ and system functional activity during prolonged fever reaction.

[Amino acid composition of the lymph and blood in allergic transformations of the body].

The time-course of changes in the content of free amino acids and total protein in lymph of the thoracic duct and peripheral blood was studied in dogs during sensitization and anaphylactic shock (AS). Allergic rearrangement of the body during AS was accompanied by considerable disorders in redistribution of free amino acids in body fluids (blood, interstitial fluid and lymph). It is assumed that changes in the quantitative ratios occurring between individual amino acids during metabolic processes under sensitization are likely to cause protein biosynthesis disorders in the body experiencing allergic rearrangement.

[Role of the lymphatic system in the transport of biologically active substances in shock of various etiologies].

The content of histamine, serotonin, adrenaline and noradrenaline in the thoracic and lymphatic duct lymph and blood as well as absolute quantity of lymph transported biogenic amines and mediators into the general circulation were studied on 68 dogs during anaphylactic and endotoxin shock (ASh and ESh, respectively). Both ASh and ESh were accompanied by considerable changes in the hemodynamics, lymph circulation, content of biologically active substances in lymph and blood and in their lymph transport to the blood stream. The most profound and early changes in the content of biologically active substances during ASh and ESh were found in the lymph, which shows an important role of the lymphatic system in their resorption and transport from organs and tissues into the general circulation.

[Rate of lymph flow and the protein-electrolyte composition of the lymph from the thoracic duct in experimental acholia].

Experimental acholia was reproduced by applying a biliary fistula to the choledochus in cats for 20 days. It was established that acholia was accompanied by considerable changes in the lymph flow and in the protein-electrolyte composition of the lymph. The rate of the lymph flow in animals with acholia was more than 2 times as decreased as compared with control. The electrolyte and protein shifts in the lymph during acholia were manifested by the reduction in the lymph protein and K+ content.

[The role of the lymphatic system in the mechanism of mediator action during immediate allergy].

Experiments were made on dogs to study principal components of the kallikrein-kinin system and the content of biogenic amines (histamine and serotonin) in the lymph of the thoracic duct and peripheral blood during sensitization and anaphylactic shock. In anaphylactic shock, the changes in the content of biologically active substances occurred in the lymph earlier and were more pronounced than in the peripheral blood. This indicates an important role of the lymphatic system in transport of biologically active substances from organs and tissues to general circulation.

[Pathomorphology of lymphoid tissue at late periods after anaphylactic shock].

The lymph nodes (mesenteric, popliteal) and the thymus of rabbits were examined pathomorphologically and morphometrically in short-term (2-3 days) and long-term (8-10 days) periods after anaphylactic shock (AS). The main alteration that developed in the lymph nodes after AS was a decrease in the size of the follicles with the manifestations of depletion. Along with multiple mitoses in reticular and blast cells the follicles of the lymph nodes demonstrated a considerable lessening in the lymphocyte count and alterations - pyknosis, rhexis, lysis of their nuclei with phagocytosis of the fragments by reticular cells. The presence of destructive alterations in lymphoid tissue seen in the long-term periods after AS points to the delayed recovery of the morphological integrity of lymphoid tissue as compared with the clinical convalescence.

[Lymph circulation dynamics and protein-cellular responses of central lymph during the early postresuscitation period].

Lymph circulation, the biochemical and cytologic composition of thoracic duct lymph were studied in experiments on dogs in the early postresuscitation period. In the course of rehabilitation of vital functions, the experimental animals manifested a considerable increase in the lymph flow rate in the thoracic ducts. Concurrently there was a significant rise, seen immediately after the postresuscitation period, in the absolute amount of protein and lymphoid cells transported by the lymphatic system into the general protein circulation. A conclusion is made that the lymphatic system plays an important role in the compensation of deranged homeostasis in the maintenance of optimal conditions for the metabolic processes in the intertissue space as well as in the mobilization and redistribution of body lymphoid cells in the postresuscitation period.

[Effect of the fever reaction on lymph cytologic composition and lymph node structure].

The authors studied the cytologic composition of afferent and efferent lymph and the morphology of the popliteal lymph node during a fever reaction of various duration. The fever reaction was attended by quantitative and qualitative in the cytologic composition of both lymph types. Reduction of the leukocyte count in the first hours of fever was replaced by its increase: the percentage of small- and moderate-size lymphocytes reduced, while that of poorly-differentiated cells--blasts and prolymphocytes--increased. The number of neutrophils and monocytes in the afferent lymph grew and its toxicity increased. Phenomena of dynamic stereotypy were noted during the development of the fever reaction: hyperplasia of the lymphatic substance with an increase of the number of lymphocytes and poorly-differentiated cells in the follicles and paracortical zone of the lymph nodes, hyperplasia of the pulpar bands, and signs of a macrophageal reaction.
