Giant cell tumor of the proximal radius.

Giant cell tumor of bones are usually located in the long tubular bones and rarely located in the proximal end of the radius. This is a case report of a giant cell tumor in the proximal radius in a 35-year-old woman treated successfully with curettage and bank bone graft.

En bloc clavicular resection: operative procedure and postoperative testing of function. Case reports.

Radical en bloc excision of the clavicle is effective treatment for neoplastic disease and does not impair normal activity of daily living. The subjective patients' assessments were good to excellent, as were the cosmetic results. There was full range of shoulder motion. Biomechanic testing revealed some weakness in shoulder abduction, flexion, and adduction but not in internal rotation, external rotation, or extension.

Intramuscular myxoma. Case report and review of the literature.

Intramuscular myxomas are relatively rare, benign, soft tissue neoplasms. They must be differentiated from other, more malignant lesions, such as myxoid liposarcoma, before definitive treatment is undertaken. The treatment of choice is wide local excision.

Tumoral calcinosis in an infant. A case report.

An unusual calcified soft tissue mass in the knee of an 18-month-old black male infant proved to be tumoral calcinosis. A relatively rare disorder of unknown etiology, this is one of the few reported cases of its occurrence in the knee. The diagnosis is one of exclusion. Because of their radiographic similarity, the differential diagnosis includes intracapsular and paraarticular chondroma, traumatic myositis ossificans, and calcinosis circumscripta.

Major vascular reconstruction for limb salvage in patients with soft tissue and skeletal sarcomas of the extremities.

Thirteen patients with sarcomas of the extremities have been treated with radical en bloc resection requiring vascular reconstruction as initial treatment. In one instance, vascular reconstruction failed. Eight patients are currently alive and free of disease. There were two instances of a local recurrence. Each of the remaining five patients who died had distant metastases develop, none of whom had a local recurrence. Vascular reconstruction with prosthetic bone replacement, when indicated, offers an alternative approach to the treatment of tumors which, because of attachment to major vascular structures, might be considered for radical amputation.

Bilateral spontaneous concurrent rupture of the patellar tendon without apparent associated systemic disease: a case report.

Patella tendon ruptures are an uncommon injury. Only 5 previous cases of bilateral patellar tendon rupture have been reported. Only 3 of these cases occurred simultaneously. All 5 previously described patients had systemic disease. This paper presents the only reported case of an individual with no known systemic disease who has suffered bilateral spontaneous concurrent patella tendon rupture.

Relationship of neuronal discharges in the precentral gyrus of monkeys to the performance of arm movements.

Recordings have been made from 162 pyramidal tract neurones which discharged bursts of nerve impulses in characteristic temporal association with performances of a stereotyped motor task by monkeys. Clinical evaluation of the relationship between discharges of the neurones and free movement led to the view that each cell's firing was associated with a characteristic aspect of movement performance and the contraction of a particular group of muscles. Quantitative evaluation of these relationships led to the conclusion that coding of the recruitment of motor units to the movement task could have been conferred by the number of pyramidal tract neurones discharging to those motoneurone targets. A ramp of "recruitment" of pyramidal tract neurones preceded the development of a ramp of force by about 100 msec. This general conclusion was supported by the observations made in a single animal in which orderly discharge of precentral neurones in relation to a sterotyped movement performance was clearly evident.
