Right-sided valvular endocarditis supported by an unexpected intracardiac foreign body.

One case of tricuspid valve endocarditis due to a catheter fragment inside the right chambers of the heart is described. The symptoms were fever, cardiac failure, splenomegaly and relapsing pneumonia. Blood culture was positive, revealing Staphylococcus aureus. A two-dimensional echocardiogram demonstrated a large vegetation on the tricuspid valve. The percutaneous removal of the foreign body allowed complete recovery in a few weeks.

[Factor VIII inhibitors in non-hemophiliac patients. A report of cases and therapeutic prospects].

Approximately 5-20% of patients with hemophilia A acquire antifactor VIII antibodies during transfusion therapy. These autoantibodies cause serious bleeding and are rarely found in non hemophiliac patients (only a few hundred case reports in the literature). Treatment of this autoimmune condition is quite difficult: corticosteroids, immunosuppressive agents, plasmapheresis and transfusions may be useful. We describe two patients we observed and add some general reflections on therapy.
