[Changes in aldosterone and cortisol secretion and serum thyroxine levels in patients with active urolithiasis].

The changes in calcemia and calciuria levels following low calcium diet have been studied in 35 patients with active urolithiasis and in 20 healthy subjects. Blood serum concentrations of thyroxine, cortisol and aldosterone in basal conditions as well as cortisol and aldosterone following stimulation with synacten were determined in addition. The levels of calcemia and calciuria (2.56 +/- 0.015 mmol/l and 4.70 +/- 0.41 mmol/10 mmoles of creatinine, respectively) were found to be significantly higher in patients with active urolithiasis than in healthy subjects. In addition, in patients with urolithiasis the basal blood serum concentrations of thyroxine and aldosterone were significantly higher than in healthy subjects, while the reactivity of cortisol and aldosterone secretion to synacten stimulation was normal. The results obtained suggest the participation of the described hormonal aberrations in the pathogenesis of active urolithiasis.

[Behavior of prolactin secretion and 25-hydroxycholecalciferol level in patients with active kidney calculi].

In 76 patients with urolithiasis the behaviour of the level of 25-OH-D and prolactin, respectively, and the metabolism of calcium and phosphate were investigated after an intravenous calcium load. In these patients a significant lower 25-OH-D level and a significant lower increase of the serum phosphate level after calcium load was observed in comparison with healthy adults. However, in contrast to healthy probands, the prolactin level was suppressed significantly. A participation of these endocrine changes in the pathogenesis of pathogenesis of urolithiasis could be suggested.

[Calcitonin and glucagon secretion in active nephrolithiasis].

In 76 patients with active nephrolithiasis and in 28 normal subjects the influence of an Ca-load on the calcitonin and glucagon secretion and on the serum calcium, phosphate and magnesium levels was examined. In the patients with active nephrolithiasis a significant suppression of Ca-induced calcitonin secretion and absence of glucagon secretion was found. Simultaneously the patients showed a lower decrease of serum Mg and reduced increase of serum phosphate levels. The authors suggest participation of the above mentioned biochemical and endocrine abnormalities in the pathogenesis of the active nephrolithiasis.
