[Development and clinical application of ICG clearance meter].

We have developed a finger-piece method that can indicates an accurate concentration of ICG based on the two wavelength spectrophotometry. Seventy-eight subjects were evaluated by this new method. The ICG clearance curve obtained from ICG clearance meter showed a rapid increase 20 or 40 seconds after the bolus injection. The curve decreased gradually, and increased again at 60 or 70 seconds. Plasma disappearance rate (PDR) by this method (XK ICG) was calculated by the at least square method from 600 data obtained from 5 to 15 minutes after the injection. There was a significant correlation between conventional PDR (KICG) and new method (XK ICG) also. We assume that this method have a possibility to discover new aspect of pharmacokinetics of ICG.

[Chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation due to abdominal true aneurysm in two cases--effect of anti-platelet and anti-fibrinolytic therapy].

Case 1: 75 years old male was admitted to our hospital with anterior chest subcutaneous bleeding. Coagulation study revealed that fibrinogen and alpha 2-PI decreased, and FDP, FPA, B beta 15 approximately 42 and D-dimer increased. Case 2: 78 years old male was admitted to Shingu City Hospital with a left hip subcutaneous hematoma. Coagulation study revealed that fibrinogen, ATIII and alpha 2-PI decreased, and FDP increased. US and CT showed abdominal true aneurysm in both cases. Either severe infection or malignancy was not found. Ticropidine and T-AMCHA were medicated for 8 days in case 1, and for 18 months in case 2. Symptom and coagulation study improved in these cases. Due to some side effects such as appetite loss and liver dysfunction in case 1, and diarrhea in both cases, we changed the therapy to mini-dose heparin therapy. This therapy also proved effective. It is concluded that anti-platelet and anti-fibrinolytic therapy are effective for chronic DIC with abdominal true aneurysm.

[Colon cancer with macroscopic invasion into surrounding organs].

Of 195 cases of colon cancer operated on between January 1972 and April 1985, 56 (30.3%) were with macroscopic invasion into surrounding organs. Among them, 45 patients underwent combined resection of the colon and one or more adjacent organs, and in 60% of them, the tumor invasion was verified microscopically. The organ invaded most frequently was the abdominal wall (26 cases), followed by the bladder (7) and stomach (6). The operative mortality was 8.9%, and the five-year survival rate in the curative resection group was 70.9%. Even the noncurative resection group showed a significantly longer mean survival time than the nonresectable group. Combined resection should be undertaken unless the patient is seriously ill.

Fluctuation of lipid peroxides and related enzyme activities at time of stroke in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats.

The levels of lipid peroxides, determined as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), were examined in the blood from stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSP), with and without cerebral lesions, and normotensive Wistar Kyoto (WK) rats. The levels of TBARS in the blood from healthy SHRSP were not significantly different from those of WK rats, while the values of SHRSP (male) with stroke were more than twice as high as those of healthy SHRSP. The activities of SOD and GSH-Px in stroke SHRSP were also statistically different from those of healthy SHRSP.
