Interobserver agreement for tumour type, grade of differentiation and stage in endometrial carcinomas.

The histopathologic evaluation plays a major role in subdividing endometrial carcinomas into treatment groups. We have evaluated the interobserver agreement regarding tumour type, grade of differentiation, stage and stage I low and high risk cases. A total of 177 cases of endometrial carcinoma in which a hysterectomy and a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy were performed, were reviewed by three examiners. A variety of features including tumour type, architectural grade, nuclear grade, FIGO grade, and spread/metastases were recorded, and the FIGO stage was determined. Using two different definitions low and high risk groups in stage I tumours were separated. A kappa value was calculated for each of the various parameters. The current study showed a good strength of agreement for tumour type, myometrial invasion, spread/metastases, and FIGO stage (kappa 0.62-1.00). For two of the examiners good agreement was found as to architectural grade (kappa 0.71) while the kappa value for nuclear grade was lower (0.56). As nuclear grading is included in the revised FIGO recommendation a precise definition of nuclear atypia is needed. In stage I tumours very good agreement was demonstrated as to the defined low and high risk group (Kappa 0.64-0.86).

Oncocytic cysts of the larynx.

Oncocytic cysts make up a pathologically well-defined sub-group of cystic lesions in the larynx. As a rule they originate from the ventricle and occur in middle-aged or elderly persons. Clinically these tumours are uncharacteristic. Such oncocytic cysts are interpretable as retention cysts rather than actual new growths. The question concerning their rare occurrence is discussed on the basis of 5 cases diagnosed within a period of 2 months.

Pulmonary blastoma. Preoperative cytologic and histologic findings.

The preoperative positive cytologic and histologic findings in ten cases of pulmonary blastoma are presented and compared with the results from the literature. In eight of our ten cases a preoperative diagnosis of cancer was possible, and in six of them a review of the material disclosed a biphasic feature. A pulmonary blastoma may be suggested when the preoperative microscopic specimens show immature tumor cells of tumor tissue with biphasic differentiation.

Determination and depletion of residues of carbadox, tylosin, and virginiamycin in kidney, liver, and muscle of pigs in feeding experiments.

The results of residue determinations of the growth promotors carbadox, tylosin, and virginiamycin in kidney, liver, and muscle from pigs in feeding experiments are described as well as the analytical methods used. Residues of the carbadox metabolite quinoxaline-2-carboxylic acid were found in liver from pigs fed 20 mg/kg in the diet with a withdrawal time of 30 days. No residues were detected in muscle with zero withdrawal time. The limit of determination was 0.01 mg/kg for both tissues. No residues of virginiamycin and tylosin were found in pigs fed 50 and 40 mg/kg, respectively, in the diet, even with zero withdrawal time. Residues of tylosin of 0.06 mg/kg and below were detected in liver and kidney from pigs fed 200 or 400 mg/kg and slaughtered within 3 h after the last feeding.
