The lateral eye movement paradigm was employed to test the hypothesis that narrow categorizers, who are believed to be more analytic in information processing, make characteristic use of the left hemisphere, while broad categorizers, being more holistic, depend more on the right hemisphere. Data for narrow categorizers confirmed the hypothesis in that they tended to produce a majority of right shifts. Results from broad categorizers turned out to be less clear, although there was a tendency in the direction of left eye shift. Additionally, narrow categorizers made significantly more total LEMs than did broad categorizers. The results are discussed in terms of cerebral specialization underlying cognitive style.
Adenosine has been shown to stimulate cyclic AMP accumulation in guinea pig atrial and ventricular slice preparations in a rapid and dose-dependent manner. Response to adenosine was inhibited by therophylline, potentiated by several other phosphodiesterase inhibitors and unaffected by alpha- or beta-adrenergic blocking agents. Agonist action required free hydroxyl groups at 2', 3', and 5' positions on the ribosyl moiety, retention of one proton on the 6-amino group, N at position 7, and unsubstituted C at position 8 on the purine moiety. The combined action between adenosine and isoproterenol was the sum of the individual stimulations. The alpha-agonist action of epinephrine and norepinephrine reduced cyclic AMP levels stimulated by beta-agonist or by adenosine; this action was mimicked by methoxamine. The effect of an alpha-agonist was particularly pronounced when cyclic AMP levels were elevated by adenosine.

Two different mutations (pabA and pabB) affecting 4-aminobenzoate biosynthesis were obtained in strains of Escherichia coli lacking chorismate mutase and anthranilate synthetase activity, thus allowing study of the pathway of biosynthesis of 4-aminobenzoate by use of cell extracts of strains carrying the pab mutations. Two components with approximate molecular weights of 9,000 (component A) and 48,000 (component B) are concerned in the biosynthesis of 4-aminobenzoate from chorismate by E. coli. No diffusible intermediate compound could be detected.
