[Tumor degeneration of an autogenous ovarian transplant].

At a woman, at that time only 27 years old, because of a one-sided ovarian tumour, the abdominal hysterectomy with the resection of both appendages had been carried out. At the same time the other ovary macroscopically without pathological findings had been implanted into the Retzius cavity, where later it degenerated tumourously like the histological picture of a cystoma serosum papilliferum proliferans. Since the resection of the second tumour, which was carried out 28 years after the first operation, there has been found no more manifestation of a tumour up to now.

Induction of specific monooxygenases by isosteric heterocyclic compounds of benz[a]anthracene, benzo[c]phenanthrene and chrysene.

Benzo[c]phenanthrene and a series of heterocyclic compounds (benzo[b]naphtho(1,2-d)thiophene; benzo[b]naphtho(2,1-d)thiophene; benz[a]acridine and benz[c]acridine) were tested to their capacity of inducing monooxygenase activity in rat liver by means of recording the metabolite profile of benz[a]anthracene formed in rat liver microsomal incubations. Although all compounds tested were found to be weak monooxygenase inducers the pretreatment of rats with them resulted in significant changes of the microsomal metabolite profile of benz[a]anthracene. The thiophenes equally gave rise to oxidation at the 5,6- and the 8,9-positions, whereas the benzacridines being isosteric to benz[a]anthracene favoured the K-region oxidation (5,6-oxidation). A structure-dependent effect of monooxygenase inducers on the metabolite profile of benz[a]anthracene is discussed.

Correlations of the receptor content and ultrastructure of breast cancer cells.

Receptor assay results were compared with the ultrastructure of 127 breast cancers (112 primary tumors, six recurrent lesions, nine metastases). Tumors were considered to be receptor positive if the receptor levels were greater than or equal to 15 fmol/mg of soluble tissue protein. Most breast cancer had heterogenous cells with different grades of ultrastructural differentiation. a prevalence of well-differentiated cancer cells and an abundance of intracytoplasmic vacuoles had a significant correlation with a positive estrogen receptor status. The correlation was better than between malignancy grades and receptor content. The type of breast cancer and the menopausal status bore no relation to receptor content. Progesterone receptors were found in well-differentiated tumors of low malignancy.

[Comparison of 99mTc-trend scintigraphy and left ventricular angiography in 33 patients (author's transl)].

In 33 patients (30 male, 3 female, mean age 48 years) 99mTc-Trend Scintigraphy (Schad) was compared with left ventricular angiography. 25 patients suffered of a chronic myocardial infarction. In 26 patients complete or partial agreement between the two methods was seen. The scintigraphy showed false negative results in the apical region and false positive results in the basal segments. The comparison of both methods shows that 99mTc-Trend Scintigraphy can be used to evaluate non-invasively the function of the left ventricle.
