[Trial routine dections of malaria. Experimentation of 1,500 blood donors].

The aim of our research was to look for specific malaria antibodies in a randomized sample of 1.500 blood donors. We used the indirect immunofluorescence technique. During this project we have noticed the lack of validity of the "the five years rule" usually followed in France to prevent transfusion malaria. We have also evaluated the help brought by an "oriented investigation" allowing firstly a selection of potentially dangerous donors, secondly, the use of their blood bottles according to serology results. This work finally shows that total security can only be achieved by systematic research on all blood donors.

[Unusual distribution of fluorescent marking during Schistosoma mansoni schistosomiasis (author's transl)].

The sera of some patients suffering from intestinal bilharziasis determine, on frozen sections of adult S. mansoni, a labelling of the digestive tract disclosed by the fluorescent sera anti-IgG and IgM. This labelling appears early after the primary infestation and may remain isolated. It is found again later, among West Indian patients of all ages infested by S. mansoni. Its development is followed in the hamster and the mouse, experimentally infested. This labelling is also present in the animal infested with S. haematobium, but it appears exceptional among adults urinary bilharzians. No cross reaction of non-specific origin has been observed. The interest, for the screening, of its research with the help of conjugates anti-IgM, has been proved. Its meaning is discussed.

[Cerebral cystercosis. 3. cases observed in the Paris area in immigrant workers].

The three cases described involve two Portugese patients and a Spaniard working in the Paris are who had presented with epilepsy, being focal in two. Diagnosis was made in two cases as a result of the existence of muscular and sub-cutaneous calcifications; in one case because of eosinophilia of the cerebro-spinal fluid. The clinical and therapeutic features of cerebral cysticercosis are recalled briefly in connection with these cases.

[Recrudescence of imported malaria (apropos of 30 recent cases)].

30 cases of imported malaria were diagnosed in the Laboratoire Central de Parasitologie of the Pitié-Salpêtrière C.H.U. in less than five months. The circumstances of appearance and the conditions of the patients' stay, the difficulties of the clinical diagnosis of the primary invasion, the gravity of P. falciparum attacks and the therapeutic schedules are presented. The accent is placed on the deficiencies of correctly prescribed anti-malaria chemotherapy and on the importance of information and sensitization of travellers.

[Acute amebic abscess of the liver followed by colonic ulcers. Report of 2 cases].

Two unusual cases of ruptured acute amebic liver abcess are presented one with inferior vena caval compression. Surgical drainage was followed by the development of colonic complications (haemorrhage and perforation) although the patients were under specific therapy. After a new surgical operation both cases were cured. The relation with amebiasis is discussed. The possibility of such an association must always be kept in mind. The value of immunofluorescence test in the diagnosis is emphasised.
