[Early results of surgically treated proximal femur fractures].

The course of 447 patients with an operated fracture of the femoral neck was followed from the accident until one year after. Methods conventional operating were employed. The mortality in the hospital was 16,5%. 343 out of 447 patients were still living after one year. 319 patients were able to go unreservedly or with an insignificant restriction. The rate of necrosis of the head of the femur amounted to 42% in the medial fractures of the femoral neck. The rate of pseudarthrosis amounted to 21%. The functional results do not correlate with the X-ray findings.

[Quality and efficiency of surgery in a district-hospital (author's transl)].

Control of quality and efficiency of surgical procedures performed is of utmost importance to every surgeon. This voluntary self-control has regularly been made by us for ten years. It allows accurate statements to be made on both the level of proficiency in surgery and the effectiveness of the surgical work done.

[Meralgia paraesthetica (author's transl)].

For transplantation of autologous bone the chips are mostly taken from the crista iliaca respectively the os ileum. Besides haematoma and seroma sometimes a specific kind of pain follows the operation. 5 patients with this neuralgia out of a total of 84 were observed.

[Benign and malignant synovialoma (author's transl)].

Synovialomas are rare tumorus. Their histology is as difficult as assessing their prognosis. Benign synovialomas should be extirpated radically. In case of malignancy amputation should be performed immediately, because amputation not until the first recurrence will often come too late. Only this treatment plan offers at present a chance to lower the otherwise high mortality rate.

[Non-osteogenic fibroma of bone (author's transl)].

The non-osteogenic fibroma of bone is comparatively rare, with its tumour character being indeterminate. It is always benign, has a characteristic X-ray and allows a reliable diagnosis to be made in almost all case. Surgical treatment is only exceptionally necessary because of the tendency for spontaneous healing.
