[The course of nonspecific odontogenic allergy in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in relation to oral hygiene].
The allergic status of 99 patients with different forms of pulmonary tuberculosis was studied by the intracutaneous test with allergens of Streptococcus hemolyticus and Staphylococcus aureus. It was shown that the level of bacterial sensitization in the patients to these allergens mostly depended on the presence of odontogenic foci of chronic inflammation. Combined treatment of the main process with oral cavity hygiene promoted desensitization and lowering of the host allergic predisposition evident from decreasing or elimination of positive reactions to the streptococcal-staphylococcal allergens. The intracutaneous tests with bacterial allergens may serve as criteria of treatment efficacy in destructive periodontitis.
