Quantification of 'regressive thinking' by use of the Rorschach test. Leading symptom of the borderline syndrome?

In this study we have attempted to objectify the diagnosis of the borderline syndrome by the use of formal Rorschach testing criteria. The randomly selected protocols of 140 subjects between the ages of 17 and 25 were subjected to cluster analysis of currently accepted scoring criteria for such phenomena as prevalence of primary process thinking and disturbance of reality testing. We were unable to demonstrate a cluster of scored responses supposedly typical for the borderline syndrome. Conversely, however, the protocols of patients clinically diagnosed as borderline did show some 'typical' Rorschach signs.

[127 operated small lung cancers (1973-1980)].

We report upon 127 small-size carcinomas which have been operated from 1973 to 1980 at the "Pulmologisches Zentrum der Stadt Wien". The different parameters of tumours are brought into relation one to each other. 61 patients on which surgery was performed during the years 1973 to 1976 have been observed for 5 years or more. It has been investigated whether the time a patient survives is influenced by the size, by the location, by the type or by the stage of the tumour.

[Activation and cell-aggregation of mononucleus cells after short-term stimulation with mitogen and tuberculin].

The aim of the study was the description of morphological changes in mononukleated cells after short-term stimulation by mitogen and tuberculin visible by light- and electronmicroscopy and in differences between nucleus areas measured by planimetry. Already 1 hr. after p.h.a. stimulation lymphocytes forme clusters in which the mononucleated cells were present mostly as irritated and exhausted cells. In PPD-stimulated lymphocytes clusters were formed after 16 to 24 hrs. These cells were activated. Within clusters strong intercellular contacts were visible using the electron-microscopy. The results of planimetry in regard to nucleus areas of lymphocytes and monocytes were significantly dependent from the kind of mitogen or antigen and the duration of incubation time (analysis of variance).

[Statistical evaluation of broncho-pulmonary carcinomas according to the types of the tumours (author's transl)].

Different aspects of broncho-pulmonary carcinomas dependent on the type of the tumours are discussed by means of a statistical analysis. Differences between the types of tumours were found with regard to the frequency in male and female patients, the frequency of the first establishment of diagnosis in the course of the year and the frequency of the formation of metastases in the regional lymphatic nodes. During the last years a change in the frequency-distribution of the different types of tumour has been observed.

[Early bronchiolar-alveolar cell cicatricial carcinoma; a case report with 2 illustrations].

Only the solitary type of bronchiolo-alveolar cell carcinoma has a chance of being healed if surgery is performed in time. This type of tumor is often found as a cicatricial carcinoma in the periphery of the lung. Small tumors do not exhibit any clinical symptoms, they are either detected by mere chance or during radiological check-up or routine medical check-up of healthy persons. In the present case a small posttuberculous scar in the lung had been known to exist for ten years. Only a repeated routine medical check-up including X-ray examination and subsequent tomographic X-ray gave an indication for the performance of thoracotomy. While surgery was being performed the malignancy and the tumor type where cytologically determined and verified by histological examination of the excised tumor.
