[Vascular manifestations of Touraine's great aphtosis (Behcet's syndrome)].

Among the systemic manifestations of Behçet's syndrome, venous and arterial involvements are discussed. Venous thrombosis is a common manifestation and may be considered as a cardinal sign in the diagnosis. Venous and arterial thrombotic complications may be regarded as agents of morbidity and mortality. The pathogenesis of the occlusive process is still some what obscure, although vasculitis and impaired local vascular fibrinolytic activity play a part in it. Therapeutic measures using fibrinolytic enhancing agents may prevent and control the thrombotic complications of the disease.

Damage of liposomes in antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity.

Lymphoid cells bearing Fc receptors are able to lyse antibody-coated animal target cells in an antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity reaction. The results presented here show that liposomes consisting of sphingomyelin, cholesterol, and cardiolipid and coated by cardiolipidic antibodies could be destroyed by spleen or thymus cells. No alteration of liposomes was observed when normal rabbit serum was used or when the effector cell population was depleted of cells bearing Fc receptors. The lysis of antibody-coated liposomes by effector cells could be carried out in two steps. In the first step, the fixation of antibodies on the cardiolipidic antigens could lead to a reorganization of the liposomal membrane. In the second step, the effector Fc-receptor-bearing cells might amplify this alteration of the liposomes.

[Frequency of viral infections (especially with herpes virus) during Darier's and Hailey-Hailey's diseases (author's transl)].

The fragility of epidermal cells in Hailey-Hailey's disease end even more in Darier's disease seems to favour the development of viral infections. The authors present six cases of herpes virus infections in three siblings with an intermediate form between Darier's disease and Hailey-Hailey's disease, both having a tendency to recur. One of the flares demonstrated signs of Kaposi and Juliusberg's pustulosis vacciniformis which is often found in the literature as a complication of Darier's disease. The authors discuss the frequency of the recurrences, which could be due to different viruses. Herpetic virus is often found, less frequently vaccinial virus, but sometimes also Coxsackie A 16 virus.

[Combined immunological and cytochemical identification of nucleated cells in normal human peripheral blood].

Nucleated cells obtained from normal human peripheral blood on a layer of Ficoll Isopaque are identified according to the combination of various assays: phagocytosis, endogenous peroxidase, naphtol AS-D esterase, immunofluorescence (IF) performed at 4 degrees C and after incubation at 37 degrees C. The Ig bearing lymphocytes are evaluated with IF, while errors due to other nucleated cells may be evaluated by phagocytic and enzymatic capacities. As the presence of immunoglobulins (Ig) on the cell surface doses not prove its B lymphocytic nature, both immunofluorescence (IF) and endogenous peroxidase are usefully performed together. Exposure of the cells to 37 degrees C during half an hour may enable us to avoid to consider monocytes and lymphocytes with cell bound Ig. Thus con accurately be evaluated the percentages of lymphocytic populations in practice of immunological tests.
