[The cytodiagnosis of eyelid and conjunctival tumors; the cytohistological correlations].

There were studied 24 patients with tumour diseases of palpebral and conjunctival type. There were taken samples of conjunctival secretion and touch samples, fixed by drying and coloured with the quick blue polychrom tannin BPT-Drăgan method. Nuclear and cytoplasmatic alterations were highly suggestive for malignity in 21 of 24 cases (88%). Cytologic results were compared to histopathologic ones. The touch samples made intra-surgical after the excision of the tumour, indicate the maintaining of the oncological safety borders in 22 of 24 cases through the absence of malignancy cells (91.7%). Our results are in the favour of the routine application of the cytological method in the early diagnosis, during the operation and surveillance follow-up of the patient with malignant conjunctival and palpebral tumour.

[Use of Drăgan's high-speed PBT staining method in oral cytology examinations (author's transl)].

Drăgan's high-speed PBT (polychrome blue tannin) staining method enables cellular elements to be detected in oral smears in one minute at most. The basic dyes in the polychrome blue solution allow the acid-group-containing substrate to be detected in the nucleus, in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells and leukocytes, as well as in the elements of the flora. The chromatin shows a distinct basophilic, orthochromatic reaction. The fine, reddish-violet metachromatic granules in the cytoplasm are of a glycolipid nature and occur with the tonofibrils. The keratohyalin granules show a basophilic orthochromatic or metachromatic, homogeneous or granular reaction in relation to the chemically acid portions of their structure.

Bacterial immunofluorescence in the intestinal juice of patients with nonspecific chronic enteropathy.

The bacterial immunofluorescence (BIF) in the intestinal juice was studied by the method of Virginia Thomas in a group of 26 patients with nonspecific chronic enteropathy (NCE). Our investigation revealed BIF in jejunal juice in 16 of 26 patients with NCE. The BIF test may be useful for the estimation of immune response to pathogenic germs at the level of the intestine.

Trichomonas vaginalis--identification by rapid BPT-Drăgan staining.

The blue-polychrome-tannin rapid staining (BPT-Drăgan, 1968) applied on fresh and dried vaginal smears makes possible the identification of different forms of Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) parasite. The nucleus is coloured in blue-violet and the cytoplasm in various degrees of blue-green, violet or bichromatical, with blue and violet zones at the cell periphery. In the cytoplasm, the staining allows the identification of many granules and vacuoles. All the stainable substrates have an acid character and represent morphohistochemical aspects which reflect the parasite metabolism in different functional and evolutive stages. Our results allow the recommendation of the method in the screening actions of the TV identifications.

Rotavirus infection in gastroenteritis in children.

The electron microscopic investigation of biological materials (faeces, intestinal mucous biopsies) from 19 children and sucklings with clinically diagnosed acute gastroenteritis evidenced the presence of some rotavirus-like viral particles in 31 percent of cases. The age of hospitalized subjects varied between 4 months and three years. There have been identified viral particles in the cytoplasm of enterocytes of the intestinal villi and in suspensions of the fecal materials.
