Effect of combined androgen blockade with an LHRH agonist and flutamide in one severe case of male exhibitionism.

A severe exhibitionist has been treated with the combination of an LHRH agonist and the antiandrogen flutamide in order to maximize androgen blocking and to control his severe deviant behaviour. The results obtained show that the androgen blockade ended his exhibitionistic behaviour and markedly decreased his sexual fantasies and activities, especially masturbation, without significant side effects.

Sexuality changes in prostate cancer patients receiving antihormonal therapy combining the antiandrogen flutamide with medical (LHRH agonist) or surgical castration.

The results of a written questionnaire with 44 patients (pilot study) indicated that before the beginning of treatment for advanced prostatic cancer, most subjects had an active sexual life, as illustrated by a normal erotic imagery, an adequate sexual desire and a normal frequency of intercourse. More than three-quarters (80%) of subjects had at least one coitus a week. Slightly more than 50% were able to easily achieve an erection by erotic imagery or by a preferred sexual fantasy; 50% never experienced erectile problems. When compared with their previous sexual functioning, 70% of subjects noticed during the antiandrogenic treatment a major reduction in their interest for sexual intercourse which was maintained in only 18% of patients. It became impossible for 57% to induce an erection by erotic imagery. However, 19% claimed an ability to maintain an erection during sexual activity, as compared to 56% before treatment, but erections usually lacked full rigidity. Twenty-two percent of patients mentioned having nocturnal or morning erections. Despite this dramatic decrease in sexual activity in most patients, complete antiandrogen blockade left sexual activity in approximately 20% of patients. Due to the treatment's excellent tolerance, the findings suggest that such combined androgen blockade could be beneficial for the treatment of sex offenders.

Men's erotic fantasies.

Ninety-four men were interviewed about their erotic fantasies. The majority of these men were married and the average duration of cohabitation with a woman was 6.5 years. All admitted to having had erotic fantasies outside their sexual activity and a large majority among them fantasized, at least occasionally, during heterosexual activity and masturbation. The contents during heterosexual activity center on three main themes: confirmation of sexual power, aggressiveness, and masochistic fantasies. Men who have more erotic fantasies during their heterosexual activity have the following characteristics: They have more frequent erotic fantasies outside of sexual activity, they are capable of controlling the timing of ejaculation during coitus, they usually take an active role during their sexual activity, they claim that their regular partner has similar erotic fantasies, they state that their ejaculatory pleasure is more intense when it results from manual or oral caress performed by their partner, they prefer the rear entry coital position, they find seminakedness more erotic than the complete nakedness of a woman, they prefer and have sexual activity during the night, they have had homosexual activities sometime during their life, they tend to leave it to their partner to initiate sexual encounters, and they have experienced psychotherapy.

[An automatic bacteriophage distributor (author's transl)].

The apparatus described in this article can distribute simultaneously 22 drops of different phage suspensions at a rate of 13,200 drops per hour, which is superior than the one obtained with the presently available apparatuses. It could eventually be attached to a Petri dish distributor.

Improved staining method for differentiating immature germ cells from white blood cells in human seminal fluid.

A new staining method for differentiating WBCs from immature germ cells in seminal fluid has been studied. It is a combination of Bryan's sperm stain, which particulary stains the acrosomal cap of the spermatozoa and the spermatid, and Leishman's blood stain which stains the WBCs in the same way as found in blood smears. The peroxidase positive granules in the cytoplasm of the PMN leukocytes are seen clearly. Thus, it is possible to differentiate PMN leukocytes from non-separated spermatids when they are present in a common cytoplasm. The staining of acrosomal cap permits differentiation between spermatids and lymphocytes.

Primary reading epilepsy: investigation of critical seizure-provoking stimuli.

Precipitating stimuli were investigated in a 24-year-old woman with primary reading epilepsy. Reading material was presented on a microcomputer video display monitor under controlled conditions while the patient underwent EEG radiotelemetry/video monitoring. We examined the relative contribution of the following variables utilizing a factorial design: eye movements, reading aloud versus reading silently, linguistic complexity, and concentrations. None of these factors acted solely as the critical stimulus in provoking seizures. Seizures were most readily elicited when the patient read aloud, using material of medium or high linguistic complexity with the usual scanning eye movements for reading.
