[Etiological evaluation of deafness in children].

In relation to cochlear implants, the authors review the various etiologies of deafness in infancy and childhood, either genetic or acquired in order to determine the criteria for advising implantation. They put forward the necessity of complete evaluation of all the auditory pathways involved to determine if a premature who has sustained hypoxicischemic encephalopathy and a full term baby have the same chance to benefit from cochlear implants after meningitis. Defined criteria are urgent needs for patients and parents.

Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome with necrotic pharyngitis.

We report a case of Kawasaki disease in which some unusual symptoms, including petechiae, an urticaria-like eruption, and necrotic pharyngitis, made the diagnosis difficult. No complications were detected during a follow-up period of 15 months.

[Vibro-tactile perception in the profoundly deaf child and its possible practical applications].

The authors use vibro-tactile masking during hearing aid fitting with profoundly deaf children. When VTM is affecting or not the hearing threshold, it gives the authors valuable information as to the nature of the remaining hearing. A new hearing aid is presented which may be useful for children with only vibro-tactile threshold.

[Diagnosis of perceptive type hearing deficiency in children by determination of stapes reflex thresholds].

The article reports on the limits regarding the study of the stapes reflex thresholds as a diagnostic method with profoundly deaf young children. A number of 30 children and adolescents have been tested at high intensities and the findings indicate stapedian reflexes at 250 and 500 Hx (all the patients) 1000 Hz (the majority of patients) and 1500 Hz (some patients).
