Orthodontic goniometry: detection and measurement of apical movement: Part 1.

The possibility of apical expansion has been a matter of debate for a long time in orthodontics. Measure of expansion is easily obtained at the level of the crowns, but is coronal expansion a significant measure for apical expansion? This question received an answer as early as 1948 with the practical use of a method, "orthodontic goniometry" created by M. Chateau measuring the angular changes of incline of teeth (gonio = angle; metry = measurement).

Orthodontic goniometry: results: Part 2.

This article provides the essential from Dr. Chateau's earlier research (1948) published in Rev. Mensuelle Suisse d'Odontologie. This research revealed the various steps of adaptation and stabilization after expansion through the help of Orthodontic Goniometry.

Humans

[Dermatopolymyositis during desensitization with candidin].

A dermatopolymyositis observation is reported. An urticaria has preceded the dermatopolymyositis and has been treated by a desensitivity procedure. The possible connection between this treatment and the dermatopolymyositis occurring is debated. This observation gives the opportunity to point out the importance of a thorough knowledge of the phenomena involved by such a treatment.

Functional orthopedics: the "four pieces" and Class II treatment.

The authors describe a new functional appliance called the Chateau four pieces, which is designed for the orthopedic treatment of Class II problems during growth. The versatility of the use of the four pieces simultaneously or separately, enables the practitioner to control treatment in three dimensions. The indications and the prescription are discussed, and the results are shown.

Activator Appliances

[Cranio-facial and dental manifestations of erythrocyte abnormalities].

Various types of erythrocyte lesions are observed: hemoglobin anomalies, enzyme disorders, membrane anomalies. This leads to a reduction in the duration of life of the erythrocytes or to abnormal erythropoiesis with, in both cases, reactive development of hematopoietic tissue. This extension of the medullary field in bones results in alterations that are initially visible on radiography, and then, in the severe forms, in the development of mainly craniofacial and dental dysmorphia with, in some cases, additional secondary enamel and dentine anomalies of the hemolytic origin. These anomalies were present to varying degrees in a series of patients in whom cranial radiographies were performed. In two cases there was a fortuitous association of dental anomalies of the melanodontia and opalescent dentine types. These patients may raise particular problems during dental care and treatment: risk of infection, respect of drug contraindications, latent cardiac insufficiency.

Cephalometry

[Contribution to the study of labeled neurohypophysial hormones. Preliminary data on the properties of the macromolecular compound: vasopressin-dextran (author's transl)].

The neuropeptide binding sites at the level of their target cells can be localized by several morphological methods. For one of the neurohypophysial hormones, vasopressin, not all labelling techniques can be applied: radioiodinated vasopressin has no biological activity; only 3Hvasopressin can be used. Immunocytochemical evidence for vasopressin receptors must be supported by complementary data in order to demonstrate the specificity of the binding. A new labelled ligand is prepared: vasopressin-dextran. In vivo, this macromolecular compound has antidiuretic properties equivalent to those of free vasopressin. In vitro, it gives a cross reaction with specific anti-vasopressin antibodies. For the same macromolecular compound, the ratio between the conjugated vasopressin estimated through R.I.A. and that assayed by biological method was 30.

Animals

[Postnatal changes in the content of neurohypophyseal enzymes in the Brattleboro rat].

The development of the neurohypophysial content of vasopressin and oxytocin in the Brattleboro rats is investigated. During the early development stages, no alteration of the oxytocin content could be observed owing to the reduced synthesis of vasopressin in the heterozygous rats (Di/+) or to the lack of this hormone in the homozygous rats (Di/Di).
