The clinical course of a case of hepatoblastoma in an infant following the use of an oral contraceptive during the Ist month of pregnancy is reviewed. The following points are worthy of considerations: age of onset, clinical silence, rapid terminal course, AFP negativity.
Research relating blood pressure levels of 6-14 years-old age schoolchildren has been carried into the whele school-population of Chivasso (Turin) town. Three kinds of armbands of different widths and lengths were used according to age. In conformity with Long's suggestions, the correction factors were used for the age-groups from 6 to 7 years and 8 to 11. On the grounds of the levels taken the quantiles were calculated. The graphs show the shape of the 5th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 95th percentiles, related to the systolis and diastolic pressures and to the age of the child. The results showed a continous increase in the shape of the levels, which did not depend on the sex variant. A spike in the 9th year can be related to the fact that the correction factor can be less than it should be. The decrease in the 11th year can be put down to the fact that the correction for the armband has not been carried out from the 12th year onwards. 6.52% of schoolchildren have systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure greater than 95 degrees C.

In most (65-80%) cancer patients at an advanced stage of illness we find significant, invalidating symptoms of pain. Cancer pain is a complex pain (with a nociceptive, neuropathic and deafferentation component), which requires a multidisciplinary approach (surgery, radiochemotherapy, and pain therapy). Pain therapy has various pharmacological strategies at its disposal (opiates, anti-inflammatory and adjuvant drugs) together with modulation and neurodestructive techniques, which must be applied taking account of both the stage of the disease and the pain intensity. In elderly patients, a careful, tailored management of pharmacological therapy is required. In older age, personality disorders are also to be found (anxiety, depression, hypocondria and feeling of abandonment), which make therapy more complex and varied. Knowledge of these problems will, however, make it possible to control cancer pain in elderly patients to the best possible effect and improve the quality of life in the advanced and terminal stages.
A case of amanita phalloides which presented a typical picture of phalloides intossication has been treated at our Centre. The patient was submitted to four treatments of plasmaexchange (Plasmafiltration), exchanging from 70 to 80% of the plasmatic volume and using substitutive liquids 4% albumine and frozen plasma, using as filter Plasmaflo Asahi OP-O5 (1) and Plasmapheresis equipment SIFRA mod. 914. Already after the first treatment there was an improvement of the general condition with a stabilization of the renal and hepatic parameters at the end of the cycle.
