Detection of hepatitis B surface antigen in isolated hepatocytes.

HBsAg was detected by indirect immunofluorescent method in liver biopsy specimens of 60 symptom-free HBsAg positive volunteers. An effort was made to separate from the material intact cells suitable for studying HBsAg localization in the liver cells.

Juvenile pernicious anemia associated with intestinal nodular lymphoid hyperplasia and immune deficiency state. Report of a case.

A 17-year-old girl with humoral immune deficiency state was observed, in whom pernicious anemia developed one year before her death. The patient died after a very severe diarrheal attack and respiratory tract infection. The necropsy revealed intestinal nodular lymphoid hyperplasia. The immunological evaluation showed depressed IgG and IgM concentration with lack of IgA, however in the patient's blood there were found B lymphocytes containing IgA immunoglobulin. On the effect of crude gastric antigen the patient's lymphocytes showed M.I.F. release, although there were no circulating autoantibodies.

Membraneous glomerulonephritis induced by HB (Australia) antigen-antibody complexes.

The authors report a case of chronic aggressive hepatitis associated with persisting HBs (Australia) antigenaemic nephrosis. The disease proved to be membranous glomerulonephritis. Immune fluorescence revealed granular type IgG, IgM, C3 and HBs antigen deposits along the glomerular basement membrane. The IgA deposit was partly linear, partly granular. Subepithelial deposits were noted by electron microscopy along the glomerular basement membrane. It is supposed that the deposition in the glomeruli of HBs antigen-antibody immune complex was responsible for the diffuse membraneous glomerulonephritis.
