The use of criminal justice authority is discussed as a possibility for keeping drug users in treatment to decrease drug use, decrease injection, and to reduce the spread of HIV. It is hypothesized that the perception of treatment and control is a central factor in the limited use of criminal justice authority by community drug treatment providers.
Visceral leishmaniasis has been reported as a complication in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who live in areas where leishmaniasis is endemic or in patients who have traveled to these areas. Kaposi's sarcoma has been found frequently in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). We report a HIV-infected patient having visceral leishmaniasis associated with Kaposi's sarcoma in which a biopsy specimen obtained from a pigmented cutaneous lesion revealed the coexistence of a Kaposi's sarcoma pattern with Leishmania parasitic colonization.
A case of a sebaceous gland hyperplasia confined to the mammary areolae is reported. Review of the literature documented only two more similar cases in this striking location. We comment on the cases and their possible origin.
Partial unilateral lentiginosis is a rare disorder of cutaneous pigmentation characterized by the presence of multiple lesions of simple lentigo involving, wholly or partially, one half of the body. We report seven cases of this condition.
