Skills for Health is encouraging trusts to consult it on the development of all new competencies. All competencies developed by Skills for Health fit with Agenda for Change and the NHS knowledge and skills framework. A number of successful case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of Skills for Health competency frameworks.

Barnsley and Doncaster are both showing some of the best smoking-cessation rates in the country. Doncaster is having particular success with pregnant women and prisoners. Working with other agencies and local businesses can bring benefits to an overall tobacco strategy.

Patient involvement. Complain and simple.

Complainants have been involved in designing a new system for addressing and preventing patient concerns. Many have become volunteer members of patient involvement groups. Formal and Informal complaints have dropped significantly in the past two years. Addressing issues when 'they are going wrong, rather than have gone wrong' has been emphasised.
