Testing the limits of care. Concern about 'genetic discrimination' from employers and insurers trying to keep costs down casts a pall on genetic testing.

The specter of "genetic discrimination" casts a long shadow over the breakthroughs and the promise of advances in genetic testing. Nearly 70% of respondents in a recent survey said they are concerned about who would have access to genetic data. But scientists say the tests can offer real benefits. Paul Femhoff, left, says a child identified with fragile X syndrome, for example, could benefit from early treatment.
