[Comparison of the efficacy of imidazole-carboxamide and of a combination of nitrosomethylurea, vincristine and dactinomycin in disseminated melanoma].

A randomized cooperative study comparing 2 regimens of chemotherapy (DTIC--150mg/m2 iv days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and a combination of vincristine--1.4 mg/m2 iv days 1, 8, 15, nitrosomethylurea--200 mg/m2 iv days 3, 5, 10, 12 and dactinomycin--0.3 mg/m2 iv days 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12) was carried out in 114 patients with disseminated skin melanoma. A combined chemotherapy course given to 58 patients was followed by complete response (CR) in 8 cases (13.7%) and partial response by over 50% (PR)--in 6 cases (10.4%). In 56 patients treated with DTIC, CR was registered in 4 patients (7.1%) and PR in 9 (16%). Patients resistant to one regimen did not respond to the other.

[Conservative methods of treating breast cancer metastases to the lungs].

An analysis is presented of different routine methods of treatment (radiotherapy, mono- and polychemotherapy; chemo-radiation treatment) used in 77 patients with breast cancer metastases in the lung. According to the data obtained positive results were gained in 53% of cases, a considerable effect being noted in 46% of patients.

[Immunological properties of the preparations of the anti-anthrax antigen].

The results of examination of immunological properties of the preparations of anthrax protective antigen on laboratory animals (guinea pigs) confirmed the efficacy of using the lactic-peptone medium for obtaining the anthrax protective antigen. Incubation for 18 hours at 37 degrees C of the strain-producer (STI-1) and a double immunization scheme with the antigen obtained proved to be the most rational conditions for inducing the immunological response in the vaccinated laboratory animals. Three fractions of the anthrax protective antigen obtained possessed weaker immunobiological properties than the whole preparation of this antigen.

[Therapeutic use of carminomycin in soft tissue sarcomas].

A total of 39 patients with sarcoma of the soft tissues were treated with carminomycin administered intravenously in doses of 10-15 mg twice a week, the total dose being 60-70 mg. The intervals between the courses were 1 month. The objective effect was observed in 17 out of 39 patients, i. e. 43.6%. The tumor decrease was registered in 6 out of 15 patients with leuomyosarcoma, in 3 out of 6 patients with synovial sarcoma, in 2 out of 4 patients with robdomyosarcoma, in 1 out of 4 patients with angiosarcoma, in 1 out of 3 patients with fibrosarcoma, in 1 patient with liposarcoma and in 3 out of 5 patients with stromal sarcoma of the uterus. A necessity for repeated treatment courses in spite of a positive effect or absence of the disease progress is underlined.
