Studies on contact dermatitis in stomatological staff.

84 patients with contact dermatitis (38 dentists, 18 dental nurses and 28 dental technicians) were studied. All were patch tested with standard patch test series of the CMEA countries and with some professional allergens. 31 (36.9%) of them had allergic occupational contact dermatitis and 39 (46.2%) had irrtiant contact dermatitis. The highest prevalence of irritant contact dermatitis was found among dental surgeons. The percentage of atopics in the group of patients with irritant contact dermatitis was twice greater compared to that in the group of patients with allergic contact dermatitis. The contact allergens most frequently encountered were acrylic compounds, disinfectants (eugenol, thymol, trioxymethylene) mercury compunds and anesthetics.

Ecosystemic approach to contact dermatitis.

Contact dermatitis is looked upon as an ecosystem, including the allgergens from environment and the mechanisms of contact sensitivity. The methods of investigation and the indirect immunological tests are methodologically discussed by ecosystemic approach.

[Induced pemphigus caused by occupational contact with Basochrom].

The appearance and development of a vesiculobullous eruption at the capillitium, on the body and on the mucous membrane of mouth and nose following occupational contact with basochrom (basic chromium sulfate) on a 25-year-old man is described. The clinical symptoms, the histological and immunological findings as well as the course of the disease led to the result that it concerns an induced pemphigus.

Contact granuloma anulare.

A case of granuloma anulare induced through contact with nickel is described. The patch test with 5% nickel sulfate is positive.

Changing patterns of contact sensitivity in Sofia.

1237 patients with contact sensitization were patch tested five times with the standard patch test series at 3-year intervals. The study was carried out during the period 1975-1987. The results point out the increasing significance of the most common allergens in the industrially developed countries: potassium dichromate, isopropylaminodiphenylamine, formalin, p-phenylenediamine and nickel sulfate.
