The author presents various electrostimulation techniques that have been applied with good results for triggering and stimulation of parturition, preventing secondary adynamia of pharmacologic analgesia at birth, for analgesia and sedation during childbirth, for the treatment of hypertensive dysgravida, for postoperative analgesia, and the prophylaxis of dynamic ileus, for the treatment of postoperative dynamic ileus and for the therapy of chronic pain. The electrostimulation technique is applied with several devices that deliver pulse currents of various form with a frequency between 1 and 250 Hz and intensities between 1 and 40 mA, through 2, 3 or 4 transcutaneous electrodes. The electrostimulation techniques can be applied as current therapeutical methods, or can be used as reserve therapy in various specialties. They are economical, easy to perform, and protect the patient against toxic, allergic, and genetic side effects of pharmacologic therapy.
The authors reviews some aspects related to hepatic encephalopathia and liver tissue regeneration, as well as criteria for prognosis of evolution and lethality of hepatic failure of the acute type. Methods of hepatic assistance include peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, exsanguinotransfusion, plasmapheresis, perfusion of isolated liver, crossed circulation, total washing of the organism, liver transplantation and artificial liver. The principles, the techniques and the materials used for the construction of an artificial liver are presented. Such materials include active charcoal, resins, enzymes, artificial cells of materials fixed upon active or passive supports presenting as plates, sheets, capillaries and dialysis membranes. The creation is suggested, of centers for hepatic depuration where prophylactic hepatic assistance could be provided, as well as the production of an artificial liver of the portable type for the treatment of chronic hepatic failure.
The author presents a series of techniques and methods for electrostimulation that are widely used in various medical specialties, such as anesthesiology and intensive care, neurology and psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, otorhinolaryngology, urology, orthopaedics, stomatology, etc. Methods, devices and indications are described for electrostimulation, and the formation is proposed of a "group for electrostimulation" in the frame of the Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care from our country.
