Personal experience of 58 portal hypertension patients monitored for a period of 30 months is presented. Biliary lithiasis was encountered in 34.4% of these patients. The almost symptom-free course of the biliary pathology is highlighted and the surgical problems arising including those related to portal by-pass operations are examined.
The authors review the anatomopathological problems about the cryptorchidism. They report a series of 37 cases of cryptorchidism, and discuss about the treatment of them.

The authors consider the questions involved in the treatment of acute cholecystitis. They show their casuistry and experiences. As to the therapeutical behaviour to be followed, they are inclined to an eclectic attitude adopted about acute cholecystitis, preferring an early or postposed operation, and never resorting to tardy operations.

The authors report the results of a two years monitoring program focused on patients at risk of and with bedsores in the general hospital of Castelfranco Veneto. The purpose of the multidisciplinary exercise (which saw the participation of nurses, pharmacists, doctors) was the activation and the evaluation of treatment protocols. The overall recruited sample included 679 patients, with a prevalence of 61% of lesions at the occasion of the first observation, and of 57% in the last one. The hardly quantitatively different prevalence is better understood from a qualitative point of view: the number of lesions per patients drops slightly from 1.9 to 1.7; one out of four of the "at risk" patients became "at no risk"; a 30% improvement is observed with respect to treatment efficacy. It is suggested that a positive effect may be obtained through a sustained attention to the problem and the careful definition of the interventions to be planned.

After a review of the anatomopathological aspects of benign stomach tumours, 16 clinical cases are presented with an analysis of the more significant clinical and diagnostic features and the treatment employed.
A rare case of primary myxoid liposarcoma of the mesentery was observed and a detailed description of the clinical case and the operation performed is presented. In conclusion the clinical and diagnostic aspects of such tumours are analysed with emphasis on the major anatomical and pathological features.
Morgagni-Larrey's hernias, which are both infrequent and generally asymptomatic, are often diagnosed by chance during routine diagnostic tests performed for other pathologies. Usually congenital in adults, they are often small or only take the form of a pre-hernia lipoma. Intestinal occlusion is rarely described and frequently entails diagnostic difficulties before hydroaerial levels are demonstrated in the thoracic region. In these cases, surgery using an abdominal approach should be preferred in order to treat compressed abdominal viscera at the same time and to exclude the bilateral nature of the lesion. The authors present two cases of an adult man and woman who were referred to their attention for occlusive pathologies. Both were operated using a laparotomy approach. The reduction of abdominal viscera did not present any difficulties. The hernial sac was only removed in the first patient. Plastic surgery was completed by attaching the diaphragmatic flap to the costal and sternal wall using separate non-reabsorbing suture stitches. No complications were reported.
