[Wilson Jones angiosarcoma of the face and scalp].

Because of its rarity and its fast development, we report a case of a 84-year-old woman, who developed all the clinical and histopathological characteristics of the angiosarcoma of face and scalp, with a fatal evolution within four months and metastases to liver, lungs and bone marrow.

[Cowden disease: report of 8 cases in 2 families (author's transl)].

These 8 cases of multiple hamartoma syndrome are the first reported in Switzerland. Two men aged respectively of 65 and 28 years presented a cobblestone appearance of the gingiva and of the tongue ("pebbly tongue"), which suggested Cowden disease. This diagnosis was confirmed by the discovery of numberous skin lesions, a thyroid goiter, gastrointestinal polyposis, and a mild skelettal dysmorphosis. The older patient had a grade one carcinoma of the bladder; his son and his daughter presented the syndrome, which was also discovered in the family of the second patient (his father, his brother, his sister and one of her daughters). The ultrastructural study of two skin biopsies demonstrated anomalies of the fibroblasts and collagen fibers.

[Comparative study of hematoporphyrin and psoralen effects on fibroblasts after black light irradiation (author's transl)].

The inhibitory effect of photosensitized substances such as psoralen and haematoporphyrin on fibroblast cultures of mice irradiated with black light has been studied by autoradiography and scintillation. Psoralen and haematoporphyrin used in constant concentrations produce significant changes in the captation of thymidin after 8 minutes' time of irradiation. The inhibitory effect of psoralen can be superposed to the one produced by haematoporphyrin and is increased when both substances intervene at the same time.

[Trial of the culture media Microcult GC for detection of gonococci].

A trial of the culture medium 'Microcult GC' for the detection of gonorrhea in 246 patients confirms its utility. The direct smear of the exudate is still indispensable. The best culture medium is the Thayer-Martin plate. The main advantage of the new medium tested is its simple utilization technique which makes it suitable for the practitioner.

[Essential melanic pigmentation of the mouth and the lips].

Lenticular or linear, buccal or labial, slate-coloured or melanic black spots are noticed in healthy subjects with no racial, hormonal or drug factor. Histological examination shows a pigmentary excess of the basement membrane without anomaly or dystrophy or nevus cells. Ultrastructural study shows a great number of intracyto-plasmic melanosomes, isolated or in group in all the keratinocytes in the third inferior part of the epidermis. No explanation can be given to this melanocyte hyperactivity. An excision can be done without danger for esthetical purpose.

[Ultrastructural study of the Dego's disease (report of a new case and literature review) (author's transl)].

An observation of a new case of Degos' disease in a 42 year old woman presenting a merely cutaneous symptomatology, enabled to perform a detailed ultrastructural study of vascular lesions, nerves, infiltrate and perivascular fibroblasts. The episodic clinical evolution with various formation periods of vascular lesions, the frequency of virus-like inclusions in the endothelial cells and fibroblasts, as well as C3 deposits and the presence of intracytoplasmic cylinders in the histiocytes, suggest a common physiopathologic mechanism with the autoimmune diseases. A bibliographic review accompanies the clinico-pathological study.

Experimental keratocanthoma [author's transl].

After topical application of the carcinogen DMBA on the rabbit's ear, tumors will always appear. These are clinically characterized by their important hyperkeratosis. Some of these tumors develop rapidly and disappear completely as do KA. Others do not reach such an important size but do not regress. None of these tumors looked like a malignant tumor and did not show signs of invasiveness nor metastasis. However the histological findings reveal in some cases precancerous and malignant aspects. The number of tumors can be increased by lengthening the application time of the carcinogen, by modifying the mode of application (repeated application and transport medium DMSO) and by irradiation.

Degeneration of the Gonococcus (in various media).

The ultrastructure of the gonococcus cultivated in different synthetic media and inoculated into the peritoneal cavity of the mouse makes it possible to distinguish the various degenerative morphological states of the microbe. A comparative study of phagocytosis and transformation of the gonococcus by leukocytes together with the changes observed in artificial media discloses a certain resemblance between the different stages of the progression towards L forms. Reversion to normal forms is only possible if gonococcal degeneration has not reached an extreme point and if the new medium compensates for the unfavourable conditions which produced L transformation.
